MaxineN: ... as an extra step delete/de-activate all iCloud accounts and start from fresh so they cannot be re-invited in.

As MaxineN said: If you don't want to buy a new device to be 100% sure, factory reset the iPhone & use a new iCloud account.

Behodar: ... Especially if there are purchased apps, music etc. then you wouldn't want to delete the account.

The emotional freedom of not being stalked is worth the price of any app / music library!

Unnecessary. iCloud offers granular control settings, examine the position of the account & make adjustments to suit. Being in charge of your own account delivers knowledge, security & empowerment, rather than running to another new account & hoping that it was an iCloud hack & that you beat it, whatever it was because you’re not actually sure.

It’s very unlikely that the account has been hacked in the traditional sense. Unless the stalker goes by username Geohot or Ian Beer, it’s far more likely that shared access was previously granted at some level - & if not, that the shared information is coming from another source. If sharing permission was previously granted for some feature or another, it may have been abused or extended without knowledge, but certainly by checking the iCloud account you’ll find out all about it. If there’s no sharing, no stray devices on the account, no email forwarding then you’ll find out something almost as valuable - that it’s not the iCloud account that’s leaking data.

By adding 2FA & changing the password she will immediately lock any stray account access out. Checking that location sharing is off will pretty much close that book. On an iDevice, simply open the Find My app. Location sharing switch is right there.

Question. Has a restraining order been taken out against this guy? If not, why not? By all means, you need to get on top of how he is accessing her phone data, but surely the ability to have the police involved for any contact would be helpful.

That’s another interesting story!  Yes, complaints have been made to police by our family member as well as by another ex girlfriend.  Unfortunately, there is NOTHING they can do unless there is physical stuff involved.  And this is all very cunning and manipulative and there is always a ‘plausible’ explanation.  I could write a book, believe me!

Further to the above, if you do find any unknown devices connected to the iCloud account then make sure you change your iCloud password immediately after disconnecting the offending devices.

she has now done everything everyone has suggested - thanks team - and all settings have checked out OK.  The only thing not done suggested by Alasta - how does she change her password with her mobile provider??

I was actually referring to her iCloud password. I assume she's changed this now?

The poster above has given a good description regarding the telco account password.

If a situation happens again where it looks like location tracking has occurred, look in the privacy settings to see what has used location services in the last 24 hours, then have a harder look at those apps as to whether they can share location in some way. Also, disable precise location for apps that don't really need it.

This loser either has access to the iCloud account - including ‘find my iPhone’. Or they have set themselves up on find my friends. Former you can change your iCloud password (also change the password for the email address that uses the account). If it’s the later, you can remove this from the ‘find my’ app

Both of those are a possibility, but far from the only things. All manner of apps track your location for various reasons - right down to sharing a photo which is geotagged. Any app or service that has access to your location and shares info with another person or a cloud service could be the vector. If someone gets the geotagged photo, they know where you are (were). If they have access to that cloud service, they know where you are. So
1) Disable location services (in privacy settings) for every app and service except the ones you specifically need to have on
2) Disable precise location for all apps/services which will work with approximate only

Check which apps have recently used your location if it happens again.
