Telco pre-orders usually open at 12am (midnight) or 00:01 if they're playing it extra safe. This is on the Friday night (technically Saturday morning).

Apple's pre-orders can open anywhere from 11:45pm to midnight. Sometimes the Apple Store app opens first, sometimes the online store opens first. Best to set up every device you can find, with some on the Apple Store app, and some on the online store.

dfnt:

Because I hate myself I’ll probably partake in the Spark pre-order.

It’s hard to stomach iPhone prices these days, I imagine this year they may cost more with the current economic climate.

My iPhone 13 Pro Max charge port is borked from all the times I’ve got out my wife’s car with the cable still attached to the phone (cos no wireless CarPlay)

@dfnt welcome to the darkside, your due for an upgrade anyways - make sure to pre-order only when i have done it.😉

When do the retail stores get the display models out?  Is it when pre-orders start (i.e. from Saturday) or when they are launched (i.e. 19 September)?

I'm almost ready to decide but would like to inspect the base 17 and the 17 Pro models first.  I'm not too bothered if I have to wait a little bit longer for an order to arrive, but if display models aren't out until launch day then it's going to be a bit longer before I can expect to my order to be delivered.

They'll only get the display models out on release day (Friday 19th).

Your only chance to "see" them before then, is online. I think all the tech YouTubers are allowed to post from mid next week onwards.

Thanks for that.  Helps to moderate my expectations - I don't need it on day 1, so will have to accept that it might take a few weeks to actually get one in stock.  I can be patient.

Just remember most telcos will give you something like $600 off if you go on their $65 per month plans for 12 months.

Hey @Benjip, I got smacked down by Spark and I am not allowed to order from them (am a Spark employee) and they want to focus on  "customers", do you know if JBHifi is the next best bet for the pre-order and to get it before 26th September?

Pre-orders are soon and i was hoping you can give some advise (since you know alot about the process).

Thanks

Going direct with Apple is always the best way if you're paying up front. You're almost guaranteed delivery on launch day if you pre-order within the first 5–10 minutes.

My next best bet would be Noel Leeming, as I believe (happy to be corrected) they're the biggest Apple reseller in NZ. They always seem to have display models out on day 1 too. I would personally do a click & collect though, as god knows what dodgy courier they might otherwise end up using (nothing worse than getting an Aramex tracking email!).

@Benjip Any thoughts on JB Hifi? I have some giftcards on hand that I can use

Should be fine, I used them for a pre-order recently for a Switch game and it arrived on Day 1, so no complaints…

It'll all just depend how much stock they're given by the local Apple distributors. Does JB Hi-Fi usually do live stock trackers for pre-orders?

Anyone else trying to add an iPhone to an existing Spark Plan and getting "This plan is not eligible for interest free payment (IFP). Please choose a plan that is eligible for IFP or change your plan." - I've upgraded each year for the last few years using the IFP so what gives?

Mine is a different issue, whereby I've been battling One NZ's awful identity verification flow (clearly having been a paying customer for several years is not enough verification, go figure!). One of those "Close this browser window and then click Next in the other window" situations where the Next button then says "You need to do the thing that you've just done 17 times, in another window, and then click Next".

Guess I'll be trying again in the morning or heading in-store, but would've been good for them to iron out the kinks before midnight 🤬

Well, 2degrees just lost a pretty long-term customer there...

Them still not providing Apple Watch eSim along with this rubbish has meant I'm off to Spark this round plus Spark are doing a trade-in boost saving even more money on my plan.

2degrees are incredibly noncompetitive this round...

Also changed this thread to be the general ordering thread seeing we're discussing other options :)
