LOL you don't understand. He is saying that they are using the docs as an incentive for people to purchase in order to clear their iphone 3G stock not that the new one wont be compatiable and that the end date is an indicator of a release date

I actually do get this, thanks.
how is the dock an incentive..?

Firstly, they had this offer running on christmas and some other time IIRC.

and on top of that, they are going to lower the price anyway from what i've read.. so..

I mean, yeah, its quite possible, but it's the most rediculous 'incentive' i've heard of if thats the case.

OMG!!!!! I'm going to buy an iPhone 3G because it comes with a DOCK! OMGreuneounrheuhnm!!@$

.. yeah, you get my point

Typo? damn it..

yup, my point exactly. Why throw free accessories in with a device that will sell itself?

true..

Although, a car charger would be more of an incentive I would have thought. Since the battery life = arse.

The topic of this thread is the release date of the iPhone 3G S. I simply observed something on the iPhone page of the VF website that MIGHT possibly indicate a date after which the 3G S will be released. Nothing deep was to be read in to it!!

Of course, on the other hand, we also know how Apple can be so there is every chance that something as sneaky as a rearrangment of the new iPhone's contacts could require a new dock making the old ones useless with the new phone.

Again, this is simply CONJECTURE - before my comment gets anyone else sitting forward in their seats ;)

Lol. Yeah well thats a fine point bcourtney. Apple do have a nice history of doing stuff like that.

but yes, OT anyhow.

Apple doesn't do a car charger so dock incentive is most you can hope for. Guarantee this has no relation to S release date...

Actually, i was told at the Vodafone store they do actually make one; but they're very expensive; more so than the dock.

But yes, I agree with the release date stuff though. It wont be in relation to.

I understand this is conjecture, but I'm still going to set the record straight.

  • iPhone 3G Dock works with iPhone 3G-S http://store.apple.com/nz/product/MB484G/A?mco=MjQ0ODg

  • Vodafone NZ is offering said dock to clear stock (It's worth $60, so not a totally feeble offer), perhaps in anticipation of a new model.

Vodafone Australia, on the other hand,  have done the following proceeding the 3G-S announcement:

  • Put up a 3G-S announcement (Coming soon) with a "Sign up for more info" page

  • Dropped price on iPhone 3G 8GB (free on all plans) and discontinued 16GB models

VodaAU's actions are much more in line with what's happening in US/other territories (8GB discounts start today etc etc announcement at WWDC).  I'd ask why VodaNZ are being such bastards, but I'm sure we're all far too jaded to seriously pose such questions.  Best we can all hope for is a surprise announcement from Telecom, which seems unlikely seeing as all we have to go on so far is a vague tweet. It looks like the iPhone is being released in Norway (the same group as us) on July 9.

I wondering if that will be the case with NZ also.
