It won't show as a credit - will simply allow you to use up to 3GB before any overage charges kick in.

Shame the MMS platform now seems to change the sent file types, mp3's become AMR at the other end for example.

John, are you able to confirm whether this is a global thing across the MMSC or specific to the receiving device?

It's still a fantastic deal, Do you have to actually purchase an iPhone to go on an iPhone plan? if you had a 900MHz UMTS device and were in certain outlying areas with low loading and good backhaul, you could certainly quite easily chew through that 3GB.

how do you get more than 1GB on an iPhone plan.. VF Store advised me to have a youchoose/talker & Everyday BB plan. So am I now prejudiced due to lack of product flexibility and steered advice from VF sales?

The iPhone plans have either 250MB (iPhone $40/$60/$80) or 500MB (iPhone $130) on them normally, and now with the current PXT and data promo to Sept 30th you will get 3GB of data on all of them. And on the Smart plans for use with the HTC Magic.

If you use some other voice plan, e.g. Choose/Talker/Txter, then you can put on a data add-on - 200MB or 1GB. Each of those has bundle insurance so that once you use the first bundle you get the same amount for another $10. So the 1GB add-on costs $49.95 and $59.95 for 2GB.

I think Mauricio is right. It's likely Apple will likely appoint a second carrier, as it most countries (Australia has three). Telecom has previously admitted to NBR that it is in "deep discussions" wtih Apple, although it's clammed up right now (http://www.nbr.co.nz/article/vodafone-offers-all-iphone-users-3gb-a-month-bonus-data-104752).

Vodafone also simply needs to stem the tide of people who're inserting an XT Sim into a Vodafone-bought iPhone.

It's a pretty interesting game of chess at the moment isn't it? Who is going to make the first move? When you think about it both Telcom and VF will want to know what the other is going to offer before announcing their own plans. I guess we will find out next week!

btw, Vodafone now says new iPhone customers will get the new plan straight away, others the first time their monthly plan rolls over after July 1

Data over my included 250MB is 25c per MB. So the free 3GB would normally cost me 2750MB*25c*3month=$2062.50. The fact that Vodafone is giving away 2 grand to each customer makes me think that maybe they just could possibly be charging a little more than is reasonable per MB. They must have one heck of a markup on traffic.
