Be very careful though they can be dangerous to your wallet: I got my first iPhone 3G in October, loved the OS so bought an iMac in June, bought a 3GS in August, then bought a 13.3" MacBook Pro a couple weeks ago!
Get one! I'm loving it, often get more than the quoted 7 hours of battery life too, even though I pretty much just use it for email, surfing, and using iWork.
No worries man. Being a Mac fanboy is hardly threadjacking!
Incidentally, can anyone give me an idea of what kind of usage the XT $12/120MB prepaid data package would get me? I'm really not sure how much data that really is.
iPhone roaming in Europe on O2 is expensive. It is currently ?3 a MB for European countries and ?6 a MB for outside Europe. You can however purchase "Roaming Data Packs"; however I believe you will need to be on a contract to do so.
If you are going to be in London for longer than 3 months, I would recommend to get the Simplicity Plan, which is ?13 for 300 minutes, 600 TXTs and unlimited internet. No tie downs.
Give me a yell if you need any more help- I'm based in London
I'm back with more Europe-related iPhone questions!
One of the big pros of the iPhone is its integrated GPS.
For travelling in Europe, would it be worth buying something like this: http://www.navigon.com/site/int/en/products/navigation_software/iphone
It's a SatNav app which covers all of Europe, and with 3GB or so of maps it's clearly got a lot of content. However, I've never actually used a satnav before, and from the pictures they all seem to be quite driving-oriented. As I'll be on foot 90% of the time, and be after mainly metropolitan info (e.g. locations of museums, bus stops, shops etc), am I better to simply ensure that I have the data plan necessary for good google maps access?
This probably becomes somewhat irrelevant if I can get an all-you-can-eat data plan for whichever country I'm in at the time, but I suppose the advantage of the satnav app is that it will work even if the interwebs is unavailable. I'm assuming coverage in cities and major towns will be fine, so hopefully that won't be much of an issue.
As always, advice from those in the know is appreciated.
p.s. thanks portege, I'm not sure how long we'll be in the UK for, but it's unlikely to be more than 3 weeks. I hear there is some sort of Virgin twin-pack thing that gets you and a mate around 1GB of data for 2 quid.
