If I bought this phone in the USA for $450NZD would it work here? Or has it been configured only to work in the US?

This has been covered so many times on here.

US$299 is for signing a two-year contract so you won't be buying it at that price.

The phone is locked to AT&T so it will not work in NZ.

It is possible to unlock them but totally down to whether you're willing to risk bricking it, there'd also be a delay while you wait for the hacking community to release their work. I've not done a 3gs but done the original iphone and jailbroken plenty of ipod touches. There's always going to be that few seconds when you're crapping yourself, waiting for it to restart, wondering if you've just created the worlds most expensive paperweight.

because no one as said it yet

<DrEvil> One MILLION dollars </DrEvil>

Most probably about 1400 to buy outright. I don't think it is likely that Apple is likely to compete on price with HTC / Nokia / Whoever. I do like Mac Hardware and run macs myself, but for some reason the iPhone has always left me a but so-so

then obviously vodafone too will price it high :( i too wish they could price like US, really.

That price is pretty much a guess though 'subject to change' and being a parallel import it's really just a 'buy elsewhere and slam $300 in it'

Kinda funny how more or less every other product in NZ is comparably priced other than phones, I went to the US and thought i'd pick up a macbook in vegas but at the end of the day there was less than $100NZD in it so I didn't bother.

Even the Nokia E63 on VFNZ, to get it free you're looking at a $60/mth plan, with VFAU its free on a $20/mth plan!

I note in the availablity they have 5 in stock - which is obviously rubbish - doesn't say much for their price accuracy....

I would say $1349 apple store $1379 from Vodafone. Voda will get it first then the Apple Store will start selling them a bit after.

Don't know/care about plans tbh.

While i agree it is a great phone.....at $1300 thats laptop territory really.

Overpriced much?

Hopefully Hong Kong, Aussie and NZ all get unlocked handsets so I can give VF NZ the big finger and purchase cheaper elsewhere.

It would be interesting just how much more an iPhone costs to produce than the equivalent iPod touch.

The force is strong with this one!

That's what I've often wondered. A GSM/3G radio, GPS module and camera must surely all be dirt cheap.

I agree with that! it is overpriced, if we can get a laptop in that price :( Seriously, HOPE Vodafone or the Apple store here in NZ get it out in equivalent prices to USA market.

I am soooooooooo hoping!
