Apple made their bed, by denying to problem initially, and acting arrogant by saying the media is beating them up due to their success as a company. It is a flaw, which their next model will fix and they should be discounting them to make up for the defect.

tdgeek: Yes, it is a fault, a technical design fault. End of story.

But it is so EASILY resolved there is no issue. Buy a skin, get a free skin, buy a nice protective case that you may have wanted anyway.

At the much hyped launch of iPhone 4 Jobs makes mention of the antenna as a clever piece of engineering that they were proud of :)

While not quite up there with:

The world will never need more than 6 or 8 computers (IBM Exec)

No computer will ever need more than 640k of memory (MS Exec)

It sure has potential to become a quoted mistatement

It's a poor design and a real issue.... but most users may never realise.

But the apple media machine (and fanclub) simply created an opportunity for those that thought they needed tripping up... and who'll really care about that????

plod: apple are a victim of their own success, no other phone manufacture would be given this many headlines for a similar issue.

Totally agree. Its because apple only make one phone. If motorola or nokia only put out one device at a time and had a similar issue it would be a fair fight. The fact is that the other phone companies have, sometimes, dozens of devices out at one time so none of them have this type of press - or for that matter sell as many units.

Fix it rather than play the game of "see Nokia and other brands do the same too".

I got the iPhone4 today. I live in an area with very poor reception (in a valley) my 3gs couldn't get reception but now with my iPhone4 today i actually get 1-2 bars of reception where there was previously none so im very happy with the new antenna.

hallannz: "Fixed with Scotch Tape"

kinda sad you have to "tape" a brand new expensive phone to repair it.
