Although I wasn't as interested in the poor communication related to this release, I will say that I was personally most upset about the Apple press release stating the iPhone would be available outright from various resellers on the 30th, which as we know didn't ever eventuate.
After talking to Noel Leeming ("I've got no idea whether we're selling it at all") and JB HiFi today ("Probably only on plan, try pricespy.co.nz*"), I've decided to put up with the 4 week wait and order from the Apple store. At least I know I'll have more certainty about when I'll be getting it. My past experience with the Apple store estimates (with an engraved iPod Nano, and iMac) has been positive, with delivery always occurring before the estimated date. Here's hoping they go 3 for 3 on this one :-)
*PriceSpy brought up 4 retailers, with prices ranging from $1440 to $2550 for the 16GB model.
Don't know why there's a double post from me. Anywho, judging by the demand of iPhone 4, don't get your hopes in getting them before the estimated dates.

That was decision made by Vodafone. Magnum Mac clarified that although they are NZ largest Apple reseller, they sell the iPhone as a Vodafone reseller not as Apple Reseller.
Limited supply and strong demand meant Vodafone chose to capitalise on this position and make it opportunity for new accounts and resign only. Might not be popular to customers, but that is their choice (just not one that suited me but still re-signed for 24mths). Anyhow, I will now save $80mth on previous plan, can have 3GB of data and can terminate contract and still have the phone for $50 less than if purchased outright. If I move to XT I may be entitled to subsidy on joining.
