Then do it. If you think it's worth it. I'd rather get a contract or wait three weeks and pay the extra but if it's a risk you're OK with then all good. Lots on the net about how to jailbreak and unlock.

All is good then as your friend is still there as you will be able to get yours this week. Please let me know where you exchange your money though as that's a very good rate you're getting

Yeah depends what state your mate is in. Sales tax can be between 0 & 14%. I asked at the apple store in las Vegas and they told me I could only buy one with a us drivers license or passport for id. Even if you do buy one you will have to wait for the jailbreak for 4.1 to come out.

bassline: well guys your wrong..you can walk into an apple store in the us and buy an iphone4 without a contract. you cant buy it online without a contract and thats where your confused..

Apple has clarified the situation stating that you're able to purchase the iPhone 4 without commitments, just that you'll have to purchase it from a store, not online. If you were panicking at the thought of being tied to a contract in order to get your hands on an iPhone 4, hopefully this bit of news will calm you down.

No-term contract doesn't mean unlocked. The phone is still locked to AT&T.

not quite correct - even if you could jailbreak it, there is no unlock for it as yet.

my brother is a pilot he flies to the states up to twice a week..after doing some research i thought id risk it. the guy in the apple store said if you physically purchase it in a retail store you can use it in another country they are not locked into any at&t contract however if you purchase one on the apple web store they are tied it with at&t. thats probably what is causing the confusion.
