Might seem like a silly question, but is it possible for one to access the US itunes store from Apple TV?

Is there anyway I can create a US itunes account, possibly using Itunes gift cards purchased in the United States?

Has anyone found a way around this?

It's against the terms and conditions of Apple to do so. I lived in the US for a while and picked up some iTunes gift cards whilst over there, using my US address to register the account. So you'll either need to live there and have a US credit card, or buy gift certificates from a store over there. Once this is set up you can access your account from Apple TV in NZ. The terms and conditions state that you cannot continue to purchase from your account once you move to another country, although I still update my iPhone app purchases by logging in from NZ. Not sure if that is against the rules or not. I didn't bother to read all 86 pages of the rules.

Edit: I suppose if you go for a holiday to the US, you are technically "living there". In that case you may be able to pick up some gift certificates and register your hotel as your address. Check the 86 pages of rules.

Create an iTines account using a hotel address with a valid zip code and buy itunes vouchers from ebay. I am told it works well...

DrCheese: By comparison, there are 2060 movies for rent on the NZ iTunes store, ranging in price from free to $7.99. Some are HD, some are SD. The HD are in Dolby 5.1. There are also more movies available for purchase in addition to the 2060 rentals. Not sure how you can check back regularly to see if there is new content, unless you trawl through the list of 2060 movies.

Having said this, I usually watch Sky as it's more convenient. Don't care about saving $1.

My local video store has tonnes of videos as well, and they are priced from $1.

When you have to pay the high price of NZ internet to be able to use the iTunes video rental service, it makes their videos a lot more expensive. Also, to rent iTunes HD videos in NZ you need an AppleTV, unlike other countries.

Greg I have a US and NZ iTunes account, I get Monique to buy the gift cards each time she goes up there. It's easy to set up a US account, flick her a text one day and we'll catch up!
