Also with version 1.5 you can get Hans Solo,Darth Vader,Yoda and C3PO not sure if they do street names.

I have been using Tom Tom since it came out and am very pleased with it.

This one app is pretty much the only reason I stayed with an iPhone when I upgraded a month or so ago - was looking at Android, but iOS seems to be much better for nav than Android.

I've been using the tom-tom Nz app and it's great, you have to get the tom-tom car kit though to make it worthwhile.
The car kit interfaces to the 3GS via Bluetooth and all the tom-tom sounds then come thru the Carkit at a greatly increased volume, the car kit also has it's own gps which greatly improves the iPhone gps and all your phone calls then come thru the carkit as well.
It's pricy, around $ 250 for the car kit plus the app but well worthwhile I feel. It has the normal tom-tom beep when you speed as well saving me tickets so far.
I've thrown away all my other car gps as well and my iPhone is an even more valuable tool now !!

Once you buy the TomTom app, the updates also are free.
I'm just getting the 3rd update now since I bought it which includes map updates.

My iPhone4 TomTom works perfectly with this kit and it's $160 cheaper! You really don't need the TomTom car kit for navigation accuracy; it is perfect without.

You need the extra GPS for the Iphone 3GS though without the TomTom kit as the one on there isn't very strong.
Thats great the Iphone 4 has a more powerful GPS though and doesn't need the extra GPS in the car Kit !

There's nothing wrong with the gps chip in the 3GS. I use Ndrive ( now unapptainable) and can often get a fix indoors. Different apps use different algorithms to do the gps position with varying rates of fix. I find the ndrive with the navteq base maps have very good trip time calculations, but of course different nav apps may process these differently too. I believe the navigon uses the same navteq basemaps but seems from my limited observation to give slightly longer estimated trip times

Having used both tomtom and Sygic Aura, I must say Sygic is far superior than tomtom.

It has so many awesome features like:
- very accurate lane guidance
- 3D models of all major cities
- Proper 3D acceleration, smooth as.
- city guides & walking mode
- speed camera with ability to submit speedtraps
- iPhone 4 retina display support
- iOS 4.0 multi-tasking
- Universal app -- so can be used on iPad natively in full resolution
- AU-NZ app has all maps of Australia included as well

Can't say enough good things about it. Well worth your money.

Does Sygic give you audible warnings when you are going 5 km's over the speed limit like TomTom does and show you what the speed limit is where you are ?
TomTom also multitasks and runs in the background giving directions while you are doing other things on your iphone until you close the app fully, Is this feature in Aura as well ?
