In my experience, XT in Wainui is pretty good except for some very dead spots in a couple of particular areas.

Coverage maps are a good indicator but don't compare to actually trying it. Go buy a XT Prepaid micro sim, $29.95 and comes with $29.95 credit and try it for yourself, then if it works, move your Current number onto the sim.

From experience you can only transfer your number to a new prepay SIM. Once you've used it you can't port to it.

You can port to a SIM that has a number on it, you just need to disconnect the current number attached to it first.  Theres no difference if it has been used or not (as long as it is not stolen/PUK blocked etc).

Cool, the telecom shop wouldn't do it for me last year, glad to know procedures are improving.
