Re patent law, I wasn't meaning NZ

Re payments. fair comment if its them, not Google, but the same result for the end consumer

Re my comment on coming out of the wash, as I see it, the lawmakers, and this relates to the countries the device is sold in, well, IMO this part of the market, smartphone/tablet OS, is in birth. I see these as teething issues, partially created by the patent laws that exist. Clearly, you won't get to a situation where XYZ Ltd makes cool devices for some countries and not others. This is where we are at now. Common sense won't evolve from the governments of those lands (Netherlands and Australia for the Samsung 10.1 for example), as Governemts are too slow, the people will react, and the situation will change. Before long, these interuptions will largely evaporate and thinsg will go on BAU. The main players, Apple, Google, and Microsoft will evolve their OS's, with occasional legal battles as is the norm and life will go on. We will benefit from this competition.

As in?? I assume negatively? I expect so, too, but at the end of the day, he acted like a hard, success driven CEO. He created the most successful IT company by market share by a country mile. I haven''t read the book yet, and I no doubt expect to see some "he did that??" comments from myself, but you can't argue with his achievements.

I am sure the same can be said of Bill Gates and of the other Silicon Valley entrepreneurs. It must have been a wild ride by those in that time.

Interesting read for sure. So, the world complains that China censors the internet for their population, yet the US wishes to do the same? I've been over there a lot, they are a different culture for sure. And being used to being the superpower of the world militarily and financially will end. I'd love to live a 100 years to see how it plays out! Tks for the info, appreciated.

This is from 2010, so it's probably worse by now....

It's just lawsuits and doesn't include licensing deals or companies that are known to be sitting on patents and haven't yet sued (eg: Intellectual Ventures)

The pettiness of the things they are allowed to file for gets me. Imagine if Microsoft had patented a rectangular resizable bordered pane which opens when an icon is clicked to show files or folders when windows 3.0 or 3.1 came out. Everyone else would have been stuffed with litigation to prove microsoft didnt do it first, instead of developing new operating systems at a time when innovation was really happening in the desktop OS sector.
Im wondering if google didnt see this coming when they went with the move the orb outside the circle to unlock with honeycomb and now ICS.
Using petty patents like this to hold others over a barrel is just annoying and stifles innovation because it makes people have to reinvent the wheel for basic functionality instead of doing really cool new stuff.

apple is slowly drifting to the position where nokia is now. they have no further ideas to develop and stuck with their past success. the fact that Samsung has overtaken Apple in the quarterly sales, one can expect more of this stupid 'wars' in the next few months.
