You do not notice the notch after about 30 seconds of first getting the phone....

That certainly isn't how many people feel. I certainly notice it when I have used one. The notch was a compromise design solution. I understand they were trying to get the touch ID under the screen at one point. IMO they could have made the XR cheaper by putting touch ID under the screen and not using the face ID technology, and then getting rid of the notch, but that would make it potentially look better than the XS. There is the front facing camera to house, but other manufacturers have made a motorised up and down one to get over this problem.

"Get over" this problem? I would say it equally is a work around.

More moving parts to break. I'd be more worried about that little motor breaking, either due to dirt getting caught, sat on accidentally while open + many other situations.

I'm not saying I wouldn't like to see a phone without a notch, but it's something easy for me to live with personally, in order to keep front facing camera, face ID and the other features.

The in-display finger print reader would have been awesome, but now that Apple have moved to FaceID, I'd be surprised to see them swing back the other way.

Agree, although it could be done with electromagnets, which means no motors. But they also could use prisms to get the camera lens into the bezel of the phone without needing anything to popup. I could live without the front camera myself, as I hardly use it. They have more resources than other manufacturers to come up with a solution. I am sure Steve Jobs would not be happy with the notch, and would be wanting a better solution. The last great iphone without compromises was the iphone 5, which Steve had a hand in. The 5S continued this, but the 6 was compromised with the camera bump.

I think their argument for face ID is that it is alot more secure than touch ID, even an in screen one, so I can't see then moving back to it either unfortunately.

Any locals noticed this issue?

https://www.theverge.com/2018/9/24/17895772/apple-iphone-xs-max-wifi-bad-signal

Some users who upgraded to an iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max over the weekend have reported poor cell and Wi-Fi reception and noticeably slower speeds when comparing their new phones to their older models. According to users on Apple’s support forumMacRumorsforums, and Reddit, the issue appears to be widespread across the country and not limited to any specific carrier.

Good, I was thinking about getting a max when Noel Leeming gets some stock. But, will keep an eye on this anyway.

I just received the seashell sports loop for my Apple Watch series 4. I like it a lot more than the rubbery white band. Very lightweight and breathable.

Partner is complaining internet is dropping on his phone, chalked it up to his game server might be having issues. But now figuring out something's wrong after I had read MacRumors, speed tested my old iP7+ and new phone, iP7+ was getting better speeds. I had reset my network settings now and all is good. Don't know about 4G coverage though, Spark isn't really good in my area.

Edited for clarity*

One thing I have noticed is that my silent switch is a little loose when it's not in silent. I've had two XS's at this stage and had the same issue... anyone else finding this?

I seem to recall this being an issue way back with the iPhone 6. Not sure if it was fully resolved in later models but certainly neither my 6S Plus nor my wife’s 7 suffer the problem.

Does it actually rattle when you shake it or is it just a bit loose to the touch?

Doesn't seem to rattle when shaken.. at least not yet.

It's a little loose to the touch. My iPhone 7 doesn't have this problem either, that is really tight and well put together.

I had to take my iPhone XS back that I got yesterday because phone calls sounded a little staticy, almost like a speaker was on it's way out. The replacement phone is a little better, but it's still there... the voice quality on the iPhone 7 and even the 5S I have for work is considerably and demonstrably better.

This is starting to annoy me quite a bit sadly. Have made 3-4 phone calls tonight on my phone and the sound is really not up to scratch for a $2k+ device.

I think I will be taking it back tomorrow and getting a refund. Guess I'll be holding onto my iPhone 7 a bit longer :(

Have you tried resetting your network settings? People on reddit have been reporting reception issues too and apparently resetting network settings fixes it.

Yeah mate- as mentioned, I've even been given an entirely new phone and still the same issue persists. I'm going to do a factory wipe and test once more, but otherwise, It's back to the shop tomorrow for a refund.

Thanks for the suggestion though - I did hear a few people having reception issues.

Reading these issues makes me feel slightly better than I didn't succumb to the temptation to replace my perfectly good Pixel 2.....

I'm not seeing any issues on my XS Max.

WiFi speeds: Average 680Mbit down / up anywhere in the house (iperf3 to my server). Speedtest is showing around 600Mbit down, 520Mbit up. Using a Cambium e600 access point. This is on point with my previous iPhone 8 Plus.
4G LTE Speeds: A little bit of a challenge to compare this as I was only on 2degrees for a week before switching but again have not noticed any difference here. Switching to my work Vodafone SIM nets the same results I remember.

I have noticed that my iPhone really wants to be on the 2.4 GHz network on my Wifi.

Only way to make it switch to the 5G network was to reboot the Amplifi.

Not sure if its the Amplifi being stupid, or if its the iPhone XS Max.
