That certainly isn't how many people feel. I certainly notice it when I have used one. The notch was a compromise design solution. I understand they were trying to get the touch ID under the screen at one point. IMO they could have made the XR cheaper by putting touch ID under the screen and not using the face ID technology, and then getting rid of the notch, but that would make it potentially look better than the XS. There is the front facing camera to house, but other manufacturers have made a motorised up and down one to get over this problem.
"Get over" this problem? I would say it equally is a work around.
More moving parts to break. I'd be more worried about that little motor breaking, either due to dirt getting caught, sat on accidentally while open + many other situations.
I'm not saying I wouldn't like to see a phone without a notch, but it's something easy for me to live with personally, in order to keep front facing camera, face ID and the other features.
The in-display finger print reader would have been awesome, but now that Apple have moved to FaceID, I'd be surprised to see them swing back the other way.
Agree, although it could be done with electromagnets, which means no motors. But they also could use prisms to get the camera lens into the bezel of the phone without needing anything to popup. I could live without the front camera myself, as I hardly use it. They have more resources than other manufacturers to come up with a solution. I am sure Steve Jobs would not be happy with the notch, and would be wanting a better solution. The last great iphone without compromises was the iphone 5, which Steve had a hand in. The 5S continued this, but the 6 was compromised with the camera bump.
I think their argument for face ID is that it is alot more secure than touch ID, even an in screen one, so I can't see then moving back to it either unfortunately.
