People dropping their phones is a good thing for apple though, as it means people will buy another to replace it with. I mean without a grippy cover, they are all relatively slippery, being made from smooth glass and metal. It these device manufacturers want to help stop people dropping them, they would make them more grippy.

Aftermarket accesories take care of this? i.e. cases

wow i didn't realise this was a serious discussion! really? 5.5"? i'll get the 5.5 after skipping ipad 3 ipad 4 ipad air ... darn what will i do with the 2 apps i bought on google store ...

myopinion: 4.7". If there's a 5.5" one I won't be getting these for me of work. We have a 6 Note 2 phones and all but one have all been dropped (because they are too large) or broken in the users pocket. They are just too large for everyday mobile use, for people with normal sized hands.

Pffft, I've had mostly Notes since the first model, never had one break in my pocket, drop them no more than any other phone. I think you're overgeneralising based on your experience, which sounds more like your workmates are clutzes who wear hipster jeans.

(FWIW, my hands are on the smaller side of normal for a guy)

Plus we have 15 iphone 5 and 20 S3. One broken of each from dropping. I can only attribute the difference from the a note 2 drop rate due to size.

I am definitely going to line up for an Iphone6 but the size will depend on 1, the release date for each variant and 2, how big the 5.5 actually is in the hand.

I am leaning towards the 5.5, but reading this thread I am wondering if I do need that size and if I can live with it day to day.

Maybe I'll get the 5.5 and swap it for the 4.7 if it I can't live with it!

Apple will tell me what is the best option for me anyway :P

I know! I have always listened to Apple, it is best to do what they say. It has worked so well for me. I love Apple.

But anyway, my iPhone 4 is a dog now.... still ok to use (it does what it has too), but it's 4 years old, slow, has a fully cracked back screen covered up with sellotape and the power button hasn't worked for over a year. Time to upgrade!

at 4.7 inch full HD, take my money!! I think the HTC One screen size is ideal (non-screen buttons!), just in a smaller chassis. If anyone can do it, Apple can...

Just slightly off topic, Samsung announcing an all metal phone (Galaxy Alpha) yesterday did win them some brownie points. If apple can do something like that, that would be the best i reckon.

There are two types of phone - those that easily fit in my pocket and those that don't. That would determine whether the larger model would be feasible for me.

I'm genuinely quite excited to see how this plays out. Apple does not currently sell any phones I could use comfortably, so its rumoured entry into my form factor bracket of choice can only mean good things for all devices of that size. Whether it's making a 5x5 app grid standard, encouraging developers to shift app controls to the bottom, split-screen multitasking, or general optimisation for the larger form factor - which Google has failed to do - I look forward to seeing it.

Probably still sticking with the Note series, as Samsung has owned and dominated this space for the last four years, but I'm keeping an open mind until everyone's cards are on the table.

After using a note 3 for a few months, I'm happy with that kind of size, so I'm definitely keen for a 5.5'+ iPhone. Will happily wait if it is delayed 1-2 months longer than the smaller size.

Roll on launch! I hope NZ is one of the 1st places to get it.

I'll pick up the 4.7" fairly early to replace my 4S, and hand that down to someone. I'm not going to wait for the 5.5", but would go and see how it fits in my pocket when released.

I'm also waiting for the next iPad release as my first gen device is really showing its age for my usage patterns.

I've had a play with Android devices, but they don't spin my wheels and I have enough $ invested in iOS apps that this would make me reluctant to change.
