Are you in Central Otago?

There was a reported issue with apple tv and vodafone dsl back around the time of the great proxy incident.

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?topicid=146618&page_no=51, Vodafone reps were looking for examples,

JoeTurksta: If you're on VDSL then I'd recommend that you change ISP's to any of the ISP's within the Call Plus group (Orcon, Slingshot, Call Plus) which have "Global Mode" so you're not needing a VPN Service.

Great to hear you're enjoying your ATV, but for a bit more outlay you'll have even more and better options of programmes to watch! The problem with relying on Global Mode is you're limited to accessing only the US Netflix site, whereas with a DNS or VPN service the (Netflix) world's your oyster. In particular, other countries have better and newer range of movies - I've noticed particularly Mexico, Canada and Brazil. Plus there are some of the great Scandinavian/Danish series that aren't available via US Netflix.

These are two sites I use a lot to check for content - the first showing new listings, the second a searchable site for content across all countries (the latter can be misleading, though - after reading good stuff in yesterday's Dom Post about The Honourable/Honorable Woman it didn't show on the search site, but it is def. available from the US site - well worth checking out).

www.whatsnewonnetflix.tv

www.netflixaroundtheworld.com

Some of the DNS services are damn reasonable - I use Getflix, as now do my parents and two of my sisters on my recommendation (one of my sisters has Global Mode but wants full access), and that works really well for all of us and is (I think) a veritble bargain for US $32 for a year (if 'liked' on FB).

Also, as mentioned elsewhere on this or another thread, there's the matter of what will happen to Global Mode once Netflix launches here in NZ.

No I'm in Lower Hutt and I'm aware of the great proxy incident. I do get the system working but it's such a stop start affair on the Apple TV it's hardly worth the trouble.

Hi have has same issue, the fix for me is stream from the UK, I'm puzzled what's happening here as well. I think it's a combo of things as there is a lot of network / providers and links used. This all started round Christmas time as well.

Try a different. Region.

Can't complain as its a Service that we are bypassing the rules.

PS ATV 2, Spark VDSL + router and Unblockus set to Uk. Ps previous poster comment change Netflix region is good advice different content.

I also think the AV2 does have some issues but till we get word on a new ATV will just stick with it.

It makes no difference which region it's set too, UK, Canada, US they are all buggy.

I agree about "can't complain as its bypassing the rules" but I'm puzzled as to why it doesn't stream for me but does for everyone else?

Mattmannz: Why don't you give unotelly a try? Only cost you a few bucks for a month.

Yes I think I will try this next, thanks Matt

There is the 8 day trial

Maybe try the apple TV at someone else's house and hopefully a different ISP.

I've never tried watching anything but iTunes content using my ATV but it works pretty much 100% for doing that via Vodafone VDSL modem (some dodgy Huawei thing!).

This would be the best way for you to better prove where the fault lies. If it works fine its your connection and if it has the same problems its your ATV.

bluedisk: Ok, so I have been very patient with my Apple TV over the last nine months. Its connected to the Vodafone VDSL modem by ethernet cable, then HDMI cable straight into the Samsung Series 5 48" LED TV. I use Unblock US.

It usually takes a minimum of three tries or a reset (not restart) to get a Netflix programme streaming, normally all I get is an onscreen message saying "An error occurred loading this content, please try again later". The programme will stream for about 10 minutes before I get a black screen and the same error message. On restarting the programme it will run for another 10 minutes before crashing again, and so on...

However when I plug in my Sony Vaio laptop and stream from there via HDMI it works first time every time.

I'm curious as to why I can stream from one but not the other (the one designed as a video streaming device).

BTW, I'm a self-taught user of technology, (not an IT guy) but someone who deals with filming, editing and uploading HD video content to clients around the world.

Hi Bluedisk, I have this exact problem. ATV, Vodafone, Wellington. Did you end up finding a solution?

Hi I am on Vodafone UFB 200/20 I have unblock us coded into the HG659 supplied by Vodafone and have had no issues in a long time on either my Apple TV 3 or Roku 3 iPads or iPhones or PS4 and Xbox One. I think things get a bit tricky when you do it at device level. Router level seems more stable. Just my two cents.

Mattmannz: I have had a look at Bluedisks setup and there are no issues with his router, cabling, DNS configuration etc. Multiple routers have been tried along with wired and wireless. Everything is setup correctly and running the latest versions of software/firmware

My own personal experience is that combinations of Apple TV, DNS provider and Vodafone DSL can be a problem.

Matt.

Has another ATV been tried? His may be faulty
