My Nexus 6P is more compatible with my 12 inch Macbook than an iPhone is, I really thought Apple would have switched the iPhone 7 across to USB-C, but I guess the revenue created from the licencing of third party supplied Lightning accessories was too bigger cherry to just ditch....I can't think of any other logical decision other than that

Most likely to due to thickness and size. Every mm counts and lightning is still a tad thinner and smaller than usb c.

USB C is also pretty much created by apple too so there shouldnt be many reasons stopping them from using it if they could.

If USB-C is created by apple then hey you know what I smell more money making round the corner. 30 pin - ligthning, so naturally, lightning to USB-C. $$$

USB C is also pretty much created by apple too so there shouldnt be many reasons stopping them from using it if they could.

USB-C is NOT created by Apple, USB-C was finalised as a standard in August 2014 so ANYONE can make USB-C compliant products.

if usb-c wasn't created by apple then hey you know what they will create a new port them selves! actually i do remember posting about them creating a new port somewhere ...

I would have thought they would have created a new port, or at the very least used the lightning port on all their devices. Ironically you can't now charge a new iPhone on a new MacBook, without some form of adapter. It is sort of arrogant to remov all ports that people use and require people buy an adapter. I wonder if they will ditch the lightning port on iPhones and move to usb c. Although they would probably mean a big drop in licensing fees.

Wow, I am amazed at how ignorant people here are about design cycles, and how long it actually takes to design and bring to market something like an iPhone.

Its measured in YEARS.

USB-C was finalised August 2014, USB 3.1 spec about the same time.

This would have been well after Apple had settled on the design specs for the iPhone 7.

Samsung is a great example of what happens when you rush a complex product to the market.

Product testing takes month and months for something this complex, all the edge cases to be tested are massive. Then there is the debugging, is it a code glitch or a hardware issue. And then the design goes through refinement, FCC compliance testing, and it takes month to design, build the manufacturing process as well as train staff.

There are no Kaby Lake Quad Core low power CPUs available. Supposed to become available sometime early 2017
