FineWine:

I have always used the WIRED full length keyboard and the WIRELESS Magic mouse. Would love the new WIRELESS Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad BUT at $219?? Plus they have dropped the two USB ports, but you can now pair it to an iDevice (iPad/iPhone)

The Magic Keyboard is wireless. It can't have USB ports, Bluetooth is too slow to transfer data over USB and would drain the battery very quickly

The thing that really strikes me about the new iPad Pro and the iOS11 preview is that these things are starting to look like a 'real' computer.

As someone who only uses a personal computer for email, web browsing, budgeting and managing photos I am starting to wonder if my current Mac might be my last.

I agree. Copying a file easily from anywhere to an iPad app is a key. Not the sort of thing that anyone wants to do every day, but when I do, bugger it, cant be bothered with the hassle, so I bypass the iPad. I'm not 100% sure what the new copy to an app in iOS 11 covers, or if that includes from external sources.

One of the requirements I have is to download a transaction file from my bank and upload it into my web based budgeting software. It would be interesting to see whether iOS11 can do this, but it looks likely.

You mean like windows 10? iOS is becoming more OSX /macos like. But at some stage they are going to have to merge, or macOS is going to have to become redundant. Microsoft has already made the jump, but it wasn't easy.

You can download any file locally to your device, where it will be copied from your service of choice to an "On My iPhone" or "On My iPad" folder.

Still not enough ports etc.

For example, how do you empty a 128Gb SD card full of RAW image files and then back
them up to two hard drives? Can you edit RAW?

I don't know. I only use Windows at work and it feels really old (like 15 years old) but we're probably running a really old version.

I knew someone would come back with an 'it doesn't suit my needs' post. The iPad isn't designed for power users, so you need to look elsewhere.

For me, on the other hand, I only need the absolute basics and frankly I can't even remember the last time I plugged something into my Macbook Pro other than the power cable!

Hub. No way it's reasonable to expect a tablet to power 2 hdds and a card reader at the same time.

Dunnersfella:

Why not a wireless keyboard with a magic trackpad thingee built in???

Damn you Apple!

But that's fine, I guess I'll just 'slum it' with my plastic case that ties the two together.

Here's a nice aluminium one instead.
