Had to laugh. Was talking to a friend of mine 2 days ago. He was complaining about not being able to save for a deposit and complaining about house prices in Auckland. He is going to vote Labour so they can "save" him.

He texted today to say he'd be pre-ordering the 256GB for $2099

I haven't watched the presentation yet, will watch tonight.

My biggest concern with the X is the complete lack of TouchID. I know they couldn't make it work reliably under the screen, but it makes me nervous not having it at all. If FaceID works well, then it might be alright, but that is yet to be seen in the wild.

And the next question is Silver or Space Grey?

Didn't see anywhere Apple claiming to have invented Wireless Charging or 4K (or the Internet connected phone).

It is good that their Wireless Charging is compatible with everyone elses wireless chargers.

Also good (and refreshing) that they will not be charging any more for 4K content in iTunes.

They invented the modern smartphone if you like. Took it from an internet connected phone to a more widespread set of functions. I think apps came in the second version?

No, not really happy with that either.  Everything in the iPhone (original) was available in existing devices, including apps (plus you didn't need to buy a new version to get video support).  They only really brought in a modern interface, and that hasn't really changed in 10 years

Will Samsung now sue Apple for how similar the S8 and IP8 look and work to each other? Screen based home button was released first by Samsung? Wireless Charging, All screen design...

Face unlock has worked fine on Android but I haven't seen anybody using it for years since fingerprints came along and were so much quicker and easier.

The iPhone X looks fairly ugly, that notch ruins the whole look imo. Now the UI has to work around it and the results look pretty bad. They really should've just stuck with slim bands top and bottom to even it out but I guess it'd look too much like the Samsung S8 and LG V30

Might look at the iPhone 8 Plus to replace my 6S plus.

Random question, I thought we could use Apple Pay within the Apple Store app but all I have is the option to pay by credit card - can someone confirm that's the case?

Why does every iPhone thread turn into a p*ssing contest between Apple and Samsung fans.

I'm not interested in whether Samsung invented something first. I'm in the iOS ecosystem and aren't planning on changing any time soon, so all I'm interested in is how good is the new iPhone X and how well do it's features work.

Sure, but the question remains how well does Face ID work. You would hope it is an improvement over previous facial recognition systems that would bring it up to the speed and convenience of Touch ID.

So have Apple brought anything new to the table with this release? A higher-tech implementation of face unlock - yes, but nothing else in this phone is a 'first' when stacked against current phones from competitors - or have I missed something?

Dont think so. I assume the camera will be great, but they all are these days. My only interest is iOS, I havent even bothered to check what that may offer as specific to the X

Again, most people seriously looking at an iPhone X are coming from previous model iPhones and are far more concerned with that comparison as opposed to comparing to the competition. Samsung offers most of the new X features, but I personally prefer iOS over Android so wouldn't consider changing based on hardware specs.

Compared to iPhone 7 the X brings full edge to edge display, OLED screen, wireless charging, dual lens camera (without having to go to the huge plus model), and Face ID (may not be a good thing).

Dropping the 128GB tier is something that I think will come back to bite them ....
