MikeB4: As an iPhone owner I am unimpressed. I own my hardware I do not lease it from Apple I should have been given the choice with this. Apple should have been open and made this an optional install or with the install rovided a yes/no switch.

since when did the word choice ever existed on iOS? not since iOS 1.0

This issue will cost Apple for sure...particularly among new buyers who were wavering between android and IOS.

Doubt it.  They have sold (allegedly) over 1 billion iPhone's. A few hundred thousand less sheeple isn't even a drop in the bucket.  What will hurt will be their share price if it takes a hit, but it will recover.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

If this was an Android issue, there will be the same forgiveness. Like many other topics, having an honest discussion can be difficult due to inherent bias.

Android vs. iOS isn't the point. The problem is monopolization driven by uncritism. *see here*

Edit: I just compared the actual price of the cheapest iPhone X with a Moto G5 I recently bought for my son: 1149,- € vs. 119,- €. This is nearly a 10:1 ratio which can't only be explained by 'technical leadership, design, features, more Apps or plain cuteness' in the same ratio. So it must be 'something' else to pay that price. Often same people look for the lowest price they can affort but when it comes to Apple, they nearly pay any price, each year, each model, for each tiny 'improvement' (driven by marketing, not technology step) for a phone, who's battery can't be replaced by user (nogo for me), who's memory can't be extended by user (nogo for me) and a manipulated lifetime by OS without user agreement (nogo for me as well). Throw-away by design. Insane.

Batteries can be changed, Ive done it, you can go anywhere and get it done. While its cool and trendy to use the Tall Poppy Syndrome as an argument, for many it has benefits that go beyond the KoolAid factor. The battery will last a great deal longer than the phone. Storage, buy the storage you want. Apps, they get updated not fall off. OS, it gets updated for a good long time, no need to wait 6 months and hope if you can get the latest update. More secure. The key for me is integration is built on, to my laptop, iPad, ATV. Android has more features but that gap narrowed to be a non discussion, and while any automatic integration that Apple has can be made to work in Android, its nice to have it pretty much all there. Yes, they provide a premium price, but given that I assume Apple still makes more profits than everyone else put together, its like the competitor pricing is almost a loss leader.

I used to be a fanboy, and I can get a free X right now if I want, Im nit bothered though, probably will sometime. But its a good device and a good OS and a good integrated solution. Suits me fine

Throw away design and insane? LOL That probably sums up the bias

They can be changed but you risk damaging you phone, and also any waterproofing it has. IMO it looks like the only fix for Apple is to replace people’s batteries, and provide a very cheap way of doing it. Not unless they release a software update, but I can’t see how they could do that using their justification.

Shows a major downside of having a non user replaceable battery, even though replaceable batteries are still quite common in cheaper android models. Although android phones don’t appear to be affected by this, I wonder if any are?

I do like Apple iPhones, and wanted to get the next version of the X. But I am guessing android phones will catch up next year, and the essential phone which was release before the X has a somewhat similar look. Apple probably need to take a good look at how they deal with batteries. I wonder if this has anyth8ng to do with why they have 2 batteries in the x

I recently had the choice to get a free iPhone X as a gratification but selected the same value rated hardware store voucher for better suited 'tools.' Biased? Yes! I don't support knowingly companies with a bias business model. Sometimes I have to spend even more money to do that consequently.

In this case it's rather easy to have an excessive budget (i.e. for social donations or engagements). wink

Well, if your better suited tools suit you that's fine. The Apple tools suit me fine as well. I go by my experience, not a pre determined bias.

I thought that too, and I am an Apple user. Apple was always catching up, although the user experience was better. I base that on Android users comments on various forums. From what I see Apple caught up, and obviously, they are not identical so there will always be bits and pieces that differ, but these days, "catchup" isn't required by anyone.

I feel that too. My 6+ is 3 years old, its fine. Back in the day a mate used a 3GS still, it was fine. Whatever poison you use, batteries will outlast a phone.

I think Apple quotes 1000 cycles will reduce the battery to 80% capacity. At once a day thats 3 years, for normal people thats 6 years. Even then its 80% not 100%. Its a non issue
