evandavid: I went onto the AT&T GoPhone (prepay) 'pick your plan' option. I added unlimited internet ('mediaNet'), a txt messaging bundle, and an international calling bundle. Unlimited medianet gives me unlimited internet content for $19.95 a month and works fantastically - much faster than I anticipated.

It is actually "fair use policy" and I can't remember exactly if it's 3 GB or 5 GB, cCertainly a lot for a mobile device, but not "unlimited" as for a tethered connection to download movies for example.

No doubt US$19.95 a month for this kind of allowance is way better than paying $10/MB on data roaming, but there's a limit still.

hi guys... i finally got one for myself :) and its so good!!! im glad i got them!
but one question...
a friend of mine has a vodafone uk sim card... so i tried putting that in to see if it will pick it up...
when i did.. it comes with no service rather than no sim bit in the top middle of the screen just under the clock it came up with vodafone...
what does this mean? is it fully unlocked??
i got it outright from magnum mac store and they said it was unlocked... hmmmm

Not sure why the carrier shows in the middle of the screen under the clock. I have had that too with a Vodafone NZ sim.

Is your friends sim card able to work overseas? i.e set up for International Roaming? (Just checking)

Cheers

Hi there..
that i am not too sure... you wouldbe right in that its not configured to be on roam...
but with my own nz vodafone card.. it works just fine.. but with his uk vodafone it showed up as i have explained in the post above... might have to try with other sim card.. but it seems its working as it did not actually say wrong sim or anythig like that...

same happens to me when i put a Croatian T-Com sim in the phone.

I get in top left corner vodafone nz, and in the middle of the phone under time it says T-Com Hr.
I tried texting the number from  my mates 021 and i get the text .. the number is +385 98 ....
so it get the message i just dont know why i get t- com in the middle and vodafone on top left.

It sounds to me like it is showing you who the Sim Carrier is. i.e if you put an O2 sim card in then it shows you O2 but in the corner shows Voda as that is the network it is currently connected to and the same with Croatian Telecom it shows you T-Com in the middle and Voda top left as that is the network it is connected to.

So basically, Top left shows the Network it's connected to and Middle shows the Sim Provider (as a guess).
