timmmay: Does airplane mode stop data leaks?

Lizard1977: Haven't tried that, but I wouldn't expect it to be different, as all that is doing is turning off the wifi and mobile data radios.  While I haven't turned off the wifi radio at night, I have turned off the mobile data radio, so (in theory) it should be the same as turning on airplane mode.  I'll give it a try from tonight anyway.

As mentioned by rugrat, airplane mode does more than that. By law, the manufacturer has to switch off all mobile comms. So you have

  • Airplane mode (enforced by regulations)

    • Mobile data: No
    • Voice calls: No
    • Text: No

vs

  • Mobile data off (user choice)
  • manufacturer can possibly choose to ignore the wishes of the user

    • Mobile data: No
    • Voice calls: Yes
    • Text: Yes
    •

Do you have an ipad, and kids, and block their wifi at night? Because a friend found their kids were turning on the hotspot from the ipad to use it.

You should be able to approach Orcon and ask for detail on that data. For Vodafone you sign a privacy form and they supply it.

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.
