I was under the impression its cheapest for the iPhone there.

On the upside your credit card (gold) should protect you from damage to products you purchase using it but im not sure of the time frame. possibly 180d?

Don't think my Gold covers that at all. If I book domestic flights and the plane crashes then I get money if I die though (this is over and above the generic "international travel insurance" most gold CCs cover).

From what I could decipher on Japans online Apple Store, you can't purchase them outright there - at least not from Apple.

Yeah that is what I was going to say. My titanium card has some sort of extended warranty cover, never used it but must be good for something?

Interesting the Canadian tax is mentioned, maybe it is added on if you purchase from an apple store but if you buy over the net you are exempt because it is in China? Seems a bit odd though, the NZ and Aus apple store has GST included.
