Happened to me, IP4 4.1, repeat alarm and set to auckland, will find out in the morning, if the repeating worked.

Seems dumb as, shouldnt the alarm just go according to the time on your phone.

I might turn off the auto adjust thing,for dst, see if that helps.

A question as well.
Phones that are connected to telecom mobile have their date and time set automatically.
Phones that are connected to Vodafone do not, you have to set it manually..

Is this something that is hard to implement on vodafone as it would be a good feature ?

if u search for the old threads, one here from 2008 and here from 2009. i think the reasons are (read johnr posts):

1. there is only 1 timezone in NZ

2. it is not as simple as pushing a button to turn this feature on the network

it is also a fact that most telcos do not have this feature turned on by default. majority of the new phones (maybe not the magical iphone

) can handle daylight savings very well once it is set correctly.

i dont think this iphone issue is related to vodafone.

p/s: can we please have johnr back in geekzone? (i miss him)

Its suprising how many people that don't wear a watch use their phone to get the time.
I see it all the time at work and the ones on vodafone never have the accurate time set on their phones, anything from 2 minutes to 5 minutes out. I say to them - your on vodafone thats why, they don't set the time for you.

I know its not relevant, but I think it would be good idea if we are all on the same accurate time.

The other point is, what if your iphone doesn't have a data connection and is hooked up to vodafone ?
Are the ones having the problems here on Vodafone or XT ?

I don't believe time synchronisation, or the lack of it in VF's case, is an issue. This is because the only time that is ever synchronised is Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC or GMT). It's up the client (in this case the iPhone), to know how much to offset UTC to correctly determine the local time. During NZST, the client adds 12 hours; during NZDT it adds 13 hours.

To me this is an indication that repeating alarms in 4.1 still think we're in NZST, which probably means they've been configured with the old pre-2007 DST rules. We'll find out for sure on Sunday/Monday if this issue "goes away".

PS. I believe iTunes sets the time on your iPhone when you do a sync. If you're with VF, simply make sure your PC is getting good synchronised time and regularly sync your iPhone with your PC.

The problem with time syncing is that there is so much variation. We where developing a clock for a cycling lap timer. We wanted to make sure there wasn't to much time drift looking online for clocks to sync to and everyone we looked at was different. All our iPod touches (5) where different aswell

I'm also not using the default iphone Alarm clock,
I'm using the alarm clock from ihandysoft.
It even displays the weather on the alarm screen :-)

When your alarm sounds off at the wrong time, is the time on your iphone correct on DST or is it at the alarm time ?

Did the same plus it changed the date 3 days in the future (when set on Auto , Wellington) - I kid you not. Vodafone has no idea why either.

Time on the iPhone is correct on DST.

e.g. when my alarm went off an hour early, my phone was displaying 5:50am, which was the correct time. It was just that the alarm wasn't supposed to go off until 6:50am.

So this morning I had my repeating alarm set to go off an hour later so that it would go off at the correct time (e.g. set for 7:50 to wake me up at 6:50), and also set a non-repeating alarm for the correct time just in case!
