gjm: A little off topic here but was wondering what you guys think about having an iPhone that is tied into a 2 year contract but only has a 1 year warranty. Do you think that if you are tied into something for 2 years then the device that you bought should be expected to last for 2 years?

NB: theres nothing wrong with my iphone but I have always wondered about this.

is it your phone thats tied into the 2 year contract, or just the connection/rateplan? as far as i know, you're just buying a 'connection contract' with applicable 'rates' and get a discount which may be applied to the purchase of a phone.

Agree with regs. Your 2yr contract is for 'the service', and I think if you read the really small writting there ain't no warranties on 'the service'.
Whereas the hardware (phone) is covered by manufacturers warranty (and other law).

I guess the way the Telcos package discounted hardware into plans makes for blurred lines

myopinion: Well I'm going to try replacing the battery with one from a company called VPIND BATTERIES. I reckon this whole replacement thing for $500 no matter what is wrong with the iPhone is a complete rip-off. The iPhone is only just outside its warranty at 13 months.

Had problems with VPIND, they have owed me a refund for at least 2 months, he has just stopped replying to my emails. Not a professional outfit at all
