I don't know how they cope with itunes home sharing - that's the pain of the ATV of course. XBMC on the other hand gets around this but you're stuck with the jailbreak issue.?

How do you set up your iTunes? Apple need some sort of family account (like 5 users max that can be associated to each other), something which shares all purchased items with everyone in the same home, but more seemless than whats on offer currently.

All other devices can have differing itunes stores/icloud accounts - only use these for apps etc.

Can be a bit fiddly, I have one home sharing account with a US itunes account attached to it, this is what I buy video with. I have another itunes account (my primary icloud account) for apps and music - my wifes phone has the same itunes account for her apps and music. Then she has her own icloud account for icloud syncing. The apple tv, an itunes install and the two phones all use teh us account for home sharing.

Hmmm what about previous purchases? It's a shame you can't interlink accounts with home sharing and what ever account you are using each can access the content from the other.

This works fine and has done for a while (I have a US based iTunes account). If you purchase on either your PC or the Apple TV, when you browse your purchased content it has a cloud icon next to it (as opposed to connecting to your computer with iTunes and streaming from there). THis works great and I have never had problems with it, even HD content works nice.

Only problem is paying for something in iTunes then seeing it free in Hulu ;-)

Happy to help - although I should clarify - when you BUY content on iTunes on your PC, you can stream than content from the cloud via the Apple TV.

When you RENT content on an Apple TV, it is only available on the Apple TV. I have started to do this more for movies, rather than the traditional DVD/Blu-ray from the video store. Netflix is a good substitute/bigger library for this, but iTunes HD content looks better than the Netflix ones.

So, for PURCHASED content it came come from either the cloud or streamed from iTunes on your LAN.

Note - I am saying this based on my US iTunes account, although AFAIK it is now the same for the NZ iTunes store (except the distinct lack of HD content in NZ, but that's a different topic).
