How is the battery life for the Iphone 8 plus users so far with iOS11?

Seeing that iOS11 on the older phones is causing a lot of battery drain, just wanted to see if this is some special sauce that Apple cooked for iPhones older than iPhone8?

My battery has been lasting incredibly well. Listening to music whilst at work or thru the UE boom at home, calls, txt, etc and it hardly seems to lose any charge. Impressed so far.

I wonder if Apple is baking something into their Os' which renders anything older than the current gen to run the same system at 50% less efficiency so it seems to get slower over time.

I have noticed every time a new gadget comes out, the reviewers always say the interface is buttery smooth, zero lag, really fast, <insert buzz words to do with speed and efficiency here>. But when the device gets replaced, the new one becomes the exact same (buttery smooth etc).

On my iPhone 7 for the first couple of days it wasn't good, but I put that down to Non optimised Apps, App updates, re-indexing, and me playing with it more to check out new features.... it's back to normal now.

Although to upgrade the oldest device with the latest version, usually makes it very laggy. A case in point is the iphone 5s with iOS11 which is very laggy now from my experience. The ipad 2 I believe got 4 or 5 i years of upgrades and is almost unusable with ios 9. IMO I upgrade to the 3rd year, and apps will usually support the older version of ios for a few years on top of that. That way you still get a reasonably good device for longer, without putting up with lag as it ages, that ends up essentially forcing an upgrade from frustration

Just upgraded my iPad mini last night... it might be iPad mini 2.... I don't remember, it was the first iPad mini with retina display. Anyway, seems OK so far, fingers crossed

You can try not restoring from old backups
eg. the 5 is still fast after reinstalling iOS 10.3.3 (using the cmd/shift+restore then select the ipsw file directly) with nothing restored.

Just upgraded my iPad mini last night... it might be iPad mini 2.... I don't remember, it was the first iPad mini with retina display. Anyway, seems OK so far, fingers crossed

On the surface it seemed fine, just a little bit more laggy. But occasionally there are big lags, especially with the camera. Also Safari now is incredibly slow compared to ios10.3.3, just to initially get it loaded and to display the keyboard. Also doing app loading compared to an ipod touch for exactly the same install and apps, it is significantly slower. Whereas when I was running the ios11 beta GM on the ipod touch, and the iphone under 10.3.3, the iphone performed better. Also the iphone is A7, and the ipod is A8, but underclocked so there would be some difference in speed favouring the ipod. Maybe I will do a restore eventually, as I a not too badly affected for the things I use it for.

It's not the conspiracy the way you suggested (baking something into the OS), but it kinda is. The new OSes are very processor and graphics and RAM intense, so the older processors will struggle and hence "drain".

I have a 5S - not even thinking of 11. GOt an SE - went to 11 and the battery life was halved, went back to 10.3.3, battery life back to the same. But the iphone 7 has no problems (says my wife, not sure how true, but it should be fine, because the processor is dan fast)

Since this is an impression thread, I really really really envy the A11 Bionic processor. It is basically faster than my brand new i7 7500U laptop (if Geekbench is anything to go by). Can somebody figure out a way to install this chip onto my laptop? No I don't have a use for that speed on a phone.

There have actually been rumours of ARM-based Macs for ~20 years. Will it ever happen? Maybe.
