I'm still on the fence but leaning to the 8+. Not sure I can be bothered with what is likely to a be a long wait for a very expensive phone. Might wait for the next version of the X once they have ironed out all the bugs and dropped the price a bit.

Or I may just do nothing and stick with my 7+

Isnt the X just a one off for the 10th anniversary?

Most of what is in X will be standard in iphone 9.

There was talk about that, but no I believe the X is the next gen iphone. Especially considering how dated the 8 formfactor is now, and the X is now on par with the smaller bezel flagship phones.

I highly doubt there will be an iphone 9, as they have skipped to 10. Just like there wasn't a windows 9. The next iphones will likely be iphone X I or something involving the X, to show they are next gen models. I suspect they will keep the older iphone 6-8 form factor and call it something like SE . I also wouldn't be surprised if they put a headphone socket in that older form factor model, and say' We've brought back the headphone jack for this model'. They have done that sort of thing before, such with the nano where they removed video, but them brought video back for a newer model. They have also kept the 6s going this year, which is very unusual to have 3 generations going, which are all very similar phone. I think is mainly because of the headphone socket in the 6s that they have kept it going for another year.

I agree the X is the next gen phone but I believe most of the features will be replicated in 12 months time into a cheaper phone to compete with Samsungs and Googles phones.

I don't believe apple ever referred to it a 10 year anniversary phone. It is called the iphone 10, and apple uses X historically to draw a line under a new version, to represent a new starting point, as they did with OS X. They didn't call it the iphone 'ex', but 10, so I can't see them ever bringing out a phone called the iphone 9, as that is stepping backwards, and they will no doubt get ridiculed for going back a number.

I don't think there is any doubt they will bring in cheaper versions of the iphone X next time to replace the iphone 8 models, perhaps without expensive technologies like the face ID tech, and perhaps just called 'iphone', but that won't be the version with the big forehead and chin, as that is an old form factor these days, and it looks dated. I can see them calling their top of the range one the 'Pro' or 'Edition' like they have with ipads and watches. We don't know what the actual costs are, but the iphone X may not be much more expensive to produce than the iphone 8 once they get into high mass production. OLED screens are now widely used and seem to be used on $100 phones these days. It is not as though they don't make good profits either. They may also have a phone that looks like the iphone 8 next year, but it will be likely called SE or classic, like they did with the 5S upgrade.

It will be interesting to see what does actually happen and come true. I did predict last year that this years iphone would be the iphone X, as that name just made sense.

I think we all had a good idea the naming scheme would involve an X or a 10 to symbolise the tenth anniversary for Apple and something that distinguishes it from the 8 (which was probably more of a surprise then the X tbh as they skipped the S)

It's no secret, this is a special edition phone to commemorate 10 years.

I have upgraded from a 6S+ to an 8+ and the difference isn't really that significant so I would think it would be very hard to justify upgrading from a 7+.

I would suggesting sticking with what you've got and buy whatever replaces the X next year.

Has anyone got one yet, as I see quite a lot of people now have them early to do reviews on them? Apparently the faceID isn't good when using it outside in the sun. It does look like afairly good phone and definitely better than the Pixel2 IMO > But it is very notchy, and I think they will need to do alot with the software to improve how that is handled, as video playback is badly affected. The only way to avoid the notch on videos to is view the video a lot smaller, so it has bars on all 4 sides. Basically it just seems like stretched iphone 8. So I think 6/7/8 plus users are going to find the screen too small. ALthough 6/7/8 users will find it an improvement.

I would have far preferred they not have face ID, and the screen covered the entire glass, and then just put touch ID on the back. Especially as face ID may not work all that well when outside. Even forgoing the camera on the front, although I believe the technology does exist to put the camera under the OLED. It is the notch that is the main problem with it, although apple look like they are using it as something that makes the design look different from other phones. It just will be interesting to see what they do. The plus model in the future will have a smaller notch, relative to the screen, so that maybe a better one to get. I wonder if they will brng that model out earlier next year, so they can get two bites of the sales, as I imagine a lot of iphone X users will want to upgrade to a plus model.
