15 years of buying Apple products has taught me it is never safe to assume anything about them.

Congratulations. Coming from a Series 1 (well, it was a replaced Series 0, but I suspect its actually a Series 1), the Series 4 has a lot more battery and is a lot quicker. And I was happy with the Series 1.

I ended up with a standard series 4 space gray, but I got the nike band as I want to use it for when I am out doing bushcraft. It was to replace a fitbit as well.

Waiting for the ECG feature to be released.

ECG could be used in a region workaround before watch OS 5.1.2 apparently

Looking at getting a S4 apple watch myself. I'm thinking of importing one from the US as there could possibly be a chance the S4 won't get regulatory approval in NZ (I can't find any information on this) for ECG before S5 is released.

Only thing holding me back is all the stores that used to ship apple products to NZ isn't shipping the apple watch.

Why not try shipping from Australia?

Because they want one where ECG works and that is ones purchased in the US only.

Just checking, has anyone successfully bought an iWatch from the USA online store (and sent via say Youshop) then used their NZ Apple ID and successfully using ECG monitoring?

I’ve purchased one when in the states last year, and the ECG app works fine when logged into my NZ Apple ID

Can also confirm that it works fine.
Just bought a US Apple Watch S4 from another member here on Geekzone, and the ECG stuff is working with my NZ Apple ID.

Thinking of upgrading from a Pixel XL (original) to an iPhone XR or iPhone XS. Does anyone have any experiences they would like to share about their XR (or XS)? Wondering whether it's worth the extra $$ to go for XS even though the battery life will not be as good. I'm a fairly light user and get ~2 days of battery life now, so I would hate to go backwards in that regard.

I have heard the XR is a pretty decent phone. But IMO when I have tried it, it feels quite chunky compared to the XS. I personally prefer LCD over OLED due to the flicker. Ths XR is also bigger than the XS, so depends on whether you want the bigger phone or not.

I’m a fairly heavy user and can easily get home on around 40-50% each day (XS Max)

Today I haven’t had much use and currently sitting on 91%, standby is exceptionally good across all iPhones I’ve every owned, far better than any Android phones I’ve owned (and I’ve owned a few)
