geekiegeek: New Zealand 28 September!

Fastest rollout ever.

Didn't NZ get the original 3G a day before the US?

4 was my first but I think NZ was first that day

Good to read a few perspectives on iPhone 5 already. For those that will buy the iPhone 5 on launch I'm curious to hear what's driving that decision - and likewise for those who are looking to a competing product. Any comments will be helpful when I discuss the iPhone 5 on TV3 this morning.

My thoughts:

Very leaked so nothing really new, but pleased that they seem to have updated everything hardware. So, while the incremental update is largely as expected, a bit more than I thought, including camera and video improvements on an already very good feature, plus more battery life. Those, adding to iOS6 does make the sum better than the parts I feel. My main like for iDevices is integration across all products, that continues to grow.

I did learn *something* today though; the name. I can officially start calling it "iPhone 5" instead of "the next iPhone" now :P

Please, no 5S next year!  With this phone being the SJ-Tim Cook phone, I wonder if TC will take the next version as his? Look at a little customising, look at a two phone launch, 4" and 4.8"?

I see that it has LTE band 3 (1800), which I believe is what Telecom will be trialling later this year :)

Edit: And NZ is on the supported countries list for the updated Maps app. Hopefully this means that better data is coming before the 28th because the current dataset is terrible here in the BOP.

Disappointed with iphone5, especially lack of NFC chip.

I do prefer ios, but with only 4 inch display, i dont think 2x faster graphic means nothing much

Where and how often can you use NFC now?

The new cable/connector sounds like the most innovative feature. Paul, feel free to use that quote : ) lol.

What is the connector exactly and impact on docking anyone?

Something magsafe would be really nice but it doesn't sound anything like that.

For now, nowhere actually, but i belIeve it'll be different next year. And i can get update software wise, but with hardware, you only have what you got.
Recent android phones have the chip, I think it will be a drawback for iphone5

Snapper, Paywave, McDonalds, link sharing by bumping.  Still not too many

I'm waiting for Myki in Melbourne to adopt it. Hate having to pull my card out of my wallet, since I have about 5x touch cards in there :(  Would rather just slam my phone against the sensor

I have moved across the ditch.  Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.
