Perhaps they will just re-release the IPod Nano with a watch strap?

Been done already (sortof), but as one of the rumored possible ideas for its design shows exactly that, they just might!

Ahhhh ! I have been watching and reading the different comments about the Apple watch. Sometimes life is so predictable!. Headings like "Why I wont be buying a Apple Watch" "Samsung is better!" etc etc. Critics complain about the price the size the this the that makes my head spin!
So
I own a Sony Smartwatch 2 Its neat Its a toy but its fun.
Will i buy a Apple watch ? only if I change to Iphone which I may do if the wind takes me Its not a life or death situation ...Its a phone and a watch!

Will YOU buy a Apple watch??? Maybe or you may not but you may buy a samsung or Lg etc due to the benefits that the conjoined advertising effect will be having on you!

Will YOU buy a Apple Watch?? Maybe not But I gurantee as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow that at least 20 million people will.

It is so obviously a v1.0. But I am still surprised it is so chunky. I was expecting something minimalist. They are being conservative and purposely competing with the bulk of the android watches.

I have to say that the more I think about it, the less attractive a watch that needs plugging in every day to charge is.

If I want a geek watch I shall buy a Seiko Astron GPS!

I don't see this as an issue, since I take my legacy watch off every night anyhow. But yes, it really needed to have a long standby period before requiring charging - it seems odd that in these days, a laptop can manage 8 hours, but a watch can't do much better.

The upcoming Breitling Emergency II has two batteries - a normal watch one and a rechargeable one for the emergency PLB built into the watch. This solution was required because the power needs for the PLB now that it includes satellite connection etc as well as the 121 Mhz homing signal were too high for a normal replaceable battery.

To charge, you insert the watch in a special unit which both tests the PLB, measures the current charge and adds new charge as required.

It's a neat solution - but will cost about NZ$22,000 so I won't be ordering one immediately...!

The Seiko Astron connects to GPS for time checks (rather than the atomic clock radio signals used in parts of the northern hemisphere) and also can use the GPS network to identify its location on the earth, compare that with a database of time zones and correct the displayed (analogue) time to local time automatically. Seiko managed to make that happen using a battery (actually 2 batteries) which charge using light through the watch face!

If Seiko can manage solar charging for a GPS uplink I would have thought Apple could have at least incorporated it to provide booster charging and reduce mains recharge needs.
