Hmmm fair call ... that's what we had did ... there is still probably nothing stopping you having it sent to TNT world wide or alike to be on sent, obviously you would want a trust worthy carrier :)
Damn, the Herald's at least 2 weeks behind on the news. O.k. from my understanding, here's what's going on:
1) Greenpeace puts together a "scientific" study that says there might, possibly, maybe be some toxic chemicals in the device. Oh, and the device? One bought opening day. Lovely spoof apple add for the presentation though. 2) Everyone points out that the study doesn't say which ones, or how much. 3) Greenpeace pretty much admits it was trolling for headlines, piggy-backing on the popularity of the phone. 4) Apple says, "You know how you (Greenpeace) said nice things when we said we'd get rid of them in the next 18 months? What happened to that? Is it 2009 already?" 5) California has a law that says that third parties can sue for environmental/health damages - it's a major business over there 6) Environmental non-profit sues Apple. They acknowledge they have no proof of anything, just the Greenpeace study, but wanted to be first with a lawsuit to stop anyone else getting in "for the cash" 7) If you read the law, it depends on the pthalate, and on the concentration. Neither of which is listed in the study. Heck, they have acceptable pthalate concentrations for when it's taken intravenously.
I love the, "It was a whole month after Apple said they would be greener. They should have thrown out everything in the supply chain and started from scratch!" approach that Greenpeace was taking.
Oh, even better. PVC? The really toxic, nasty-ass chemical that Greenpeace doesn't like? Check your plumbing. Good enough for your water, but not your phone?
I am a kiwi living in the states and I have to say, I bought the iPhone a couple weeks after they came out. I have nothing but great things to say about my iPhone. Its such a great phone, but, reading the first post here, almost $1500 NZ for the phone?!?!?! I dont know how they can justify that kind of price honestly. I just came back to NZ for a holiday in August, brought my iPhone with me and used it on the Vodaphone network there. It seemed to work just as fast as it does here.
Apart from the price, I would highly recommend it. The internet browsing is great, fantastic on my home wifi, slow but doable on the cellular signal. I commute 2 hours each day to work and its fantastic to have that kind of tool at the tip of your fingers when you're bored. The phone itself is as good as any other phone, the lack of pxt makes me a bit sad though. The iPod work great, just like any other iPod and the maps, calendar, and alarm functions are totally awesome.
All and all I am extremely pleased with my iPhone and would recommend one, but at that price tag? Considering the US dollar is so bad at the moment and the exchange rate for NZ is good, order one from the US, paying double the price silly.
