I went to the jb opening sale today in lower hutt, and saw the new apple tvs being discounted (at least I thought they were), from $399 to $298. I didn't buy one because I didn't think that sounded that cheap. Upon checking the apple website at home, if you buy them from apple directly, they are $299 anyway without any discount. It was only $1 cheaper. Didn't find any deals at JB, even though it was a combined opening sale/ black friday. Heaps of things people don't want such as dvds, cheap dvd players etc. They make things look like they are on sale by pricing things in red. They had heaps of staff hovering around the aisles watching shoppers, which is somewhat uncomfortable, and the store had that typical jb smell to it.

jeeg: No black friday deals from Apple this year.

Looks like they are getting greedy.

And they don't do Waitangi day in the USA either.

They didn't do Black Friday in USA this year.

And in the USA a lot of "Black Friday" deals in TVs and other electronics are a con job too, they are cut down models made just for black Friday, or they are no name brands.

They probably hope to upsell you on better tvs. It is all about getting you instore, as people don't like to leave empty handed. It is all psychological,  as many people can feel like they have failed to get a deal. It is why many stores doing this sort of thing don't let you put on aside instore, or do phone orders for it. So you have to play these types of retailers at their own game.

I would hardly say $99 for a 32"  TV  is a con job.

Hopefully the two aren't mutually inclusive of each other.

They do have that teenage bedroom smell to them. It is strange how some stores have their own smells. Harvey Normans is another one that has an odd smell to it, makes me wonder if they spray something in them, as other furniture stores don't have the same type of string smell. Wellington JB hifis store though used to have the most offensive smell to it, they have improved it a bit, but the new lower hutt store has a bit of the smell too, so unless it is the staff or they spray the smell in, or it is the products. I know at Disneyland, they pump in a lot of smells, and they have vents all over the place.
