I was with a collegue the other day who has an iphone. They told me there was something wrong with it as every time they went running the music would always skip to the start of the next song.....

I showed them how to switch shake to shuffle off.... Some user interfaces are too complex for even some people...

If you want a good comparison take a scroll through the android home screen thread and the iphone home screen thread

Android is awesome for geeks. Widgets, widgets, widgets!

Cheers,

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

lol yep... i would never buy my wife an android phone because she would just break it lol. iPhone you just have lots of apps and icons, cant really go wrong with iOS if you want something simple to just use and not mess around with it.

There are a lot of good posts here, and conpared to other message boards it has been nice and civil!

I should have mentioned in my original post a few details.

I want/need 32gb min would prefer 64gb+ for all my music.

The phone will be used as a music player very often.

the actual interface is important, I tend to break things when I play around too much so out of the box is best for me.

I think setting my own back ground on my phone is ground breaking so adjusting this and that doesn't really appeal to me that much, my ipod touch was jail broken but I restored it back to normal as the cedia etc was a bit much for me.

I have always wanted an iphone but could never justify spending over $1000 on a phone.

The reason I posted here was everywhere I am hearing android this, iphone that and inevitably it turns into a lot of people who have neither passing judgment on one or the other.

I think I will try to find an iphone for the following reasons.

1, 32GB
2, I know the OS well enough
3, music
4, the dude that sits next to me at work can do almost anything with an iphone (I didn't ask his opinion as he is a fanboy!)
5, I have alpine audio in my car that interfaces with the ipod/iphone
6, I like the look of the iphone, I have never been a form over function person but they do look good!
7, No-one can tell me that from a purely user interface that an android phone is better than an iphone.

Thanks everyone for your input you have answered simple questions I had without flaming each other!

Sorry, but is it "2. I know the OS well enough" or "2. I know my way around the user interface well enough?"

lol.

I can tell you android is better ;) its just up to you what you like. I would rather have android or WP7 in every way except music which seems to be a big thing for you. so maybe you right to go ios but a 3gs is a waste or money so if you can't go iPhone 4 best not to go ios at all in my opinion.

I agree, the iphone4 is a nice piece of hardware. there may be deals in the next few months as the iSheep look to upgrade. I realise that it is out of your budget - I suggest start saving

Saving is not the issue, it is justifying to to a techni-phob girl freind who wants to buy some extra land!

I purchased a 3G when it was released. At the time it was the only option for a decent touch screen, and the only option with truly excellent screen for movie viewing.

Now there are many more choices available and much better value.

Apple's 'no duplication of existing functions' app approval criteria make the interface very stable.

And the straightjacketed app behaviour restrictions make the overall device behaviour very reliable and very stable. Only an occassional reboot is required mostly after gaming, and before applying updates.

The downside is a lack of flexibility and ability to integrate in some areas.

Almost forgot, the 3G and 3GS do not provide multitasking. Good for stability and consistent performance.

But, not so good when you really do want to run two applications at the same time or run something in the background.

My 3G works fine with OS4, actually better performance and response than 3.0.x I think. (OS4 does not deliver multitasking on 3G and 3GS).
