I will be sticking with the ipad2. I don't see benefit in upgrading.

that would be an ecumenical matter

smooguy: It appears my MIL (mother-in-law) got an iPad 2 on the 7th for her birthday (the buyer doesn't follow tech news so didn't know about iPad 3)... does anyone know if there's gonna be a rebate whereby a new model is released "moments later" and if you have purchased the prior within X weeks you get some $$$ back?

I seriously doubt it.  It's not like the iPad2 is suddenly redundant.  It's still an awesome device, and I doubt your mother in law will be disappointed.

I have 2 iPad 2's in my house and neither will be upgraded.  Certainly no "wow" moments for me in the iPad 3, all a bit underwhelming actually.

Have a mate that's a real Applefan, you know the kind that camps out for days just to be the first to get their hands on the latest and greatest Apple product, even he's talking about not bothering updating...and that's saying something.

New model scenarios like this exist in all aspects of products. In fact, unlike many other products, there was a lot of notice of a new iPad.

I have not long sold my white 64 Gb 3G model. With the USB and camera adaptor plus a BT keyboard + smart cover.
I got $1050 for this. I sold the accessories as I wouldnt need them again and thought iot would help the sale.
Buyer was very happy. Less TM fees however.

Seeing as the US/UK pre-order expected times are gearing towards the 2-3 week mark, I can only assume that the same will be said towards ordering the iPad online in NZ.
I was reluctant at first, but I'll probably be queuing at a store to get the new iPad. Where bouts in Auckland CBD would the iPad be available on NZ launch day? I'll presume the Yoobee at Britomart would be one of the places (if anyone could verify this...).

Had you of asked me a month ago if i was going to buy an ipad you probably would have covered your ears due to the expletives pouring from my mouth. However having been given an iphone 4s 2 weeks ago (it was taken reluctantly and i only took it as my Lg optimus one was starting to give me grief) i am now an iOS convert (i can hardly believe it myself!). I was holding out for the HD Optimus Prime, but i will be picking up a "new ipad" in the coming weeks, i need to gather some funds first however. I will be sticking with the wifi only model, tethering from the iphone works flawlessly and being im on the 3gb smart plan on said iphone its a no brainer.

It is interesting that apple aren't calling this the ipad 3, but just the 'new ipad'. I don't know if the higher resolution screen is really going to make that much difference to most people. I think the touch 'lag' is far more important, so it is actually like writing on paper. If they improve that on the next one, that may be worth upgrading to. Also a decent OCR for written notes, as well as a fully working suri. Perhaps that will then be called the ipad 3.

I did read that one journo thinks they are going back to iPod naming, where it was just an iPod. Yes, they had None, Classic, but iPiod was a generoc name for the media player. The iPhone 5 may well be called an iPhone.

Marketing wise thats a differentiation. Its not flash or eye catching, but its different. Less is more in some cases.

I will be getting the new iPad to replace my iPad 2. If I am looking at the screen on my SGS II, then pick up the Ipad 2, the screen looks grainy and pixelated by comparison to the phone. Having a really HD screen on the new iPad will be a great luxury.

This is purely a 'want', not a 'need' situation. She Who Must Be Obeyed has agreed to the new iPad for my birthday present and I will sell the iPad 2 asap after getting the new one.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I have an iPad (1) 64GB 3G, I won't be upgrading it, not till the day it dies (got enough electronic toy's). We just use it to surf the web, emails, and air video when on the treadmill.

I can't justify spending for the 3 when the ipad one works pretty darn well. But I can't say I wouldn't mind having one...so to the guys getting one...enjoy it!

The difference between the 1 and 3 really isn't that great at the moment. But future ios upgrades may change that. I am waiting for suri to come out of beta and integrated more into them, and I presume that will only be available for at least dual core processors. (eg the A5 + ) processors.

If I had an iPad 2 then I wouldn't be upgrading, but I personally feel that the difference between the original and the latest are quite significant. High resolution screen, more horsepower, voice dictation, thinner profile, support for 900MHz 3G and dual cameras are definitely enough to justify the upgrade for me.

I have never been entirely happy with my original iPad because of instability of apps. I think the jury is out as to whether the new model will resolve that, but either way I can't see myself regretting the upgrade.
