dafman: Shoot 4K video and play it back on your 720p screen. Cool. How’s that 4K playback working for you on that s10e? Lol
Installed iOS13.1 beta 3 on my iPhone XS Max while waiting for iPhone 11 Pro Max. 3D Touch seems to have been dropped on the XS Max as well, press harder into the screen doesn't bring out the menus anymore, instead its touch and hold similar to iPhone XR.

wife has iphone 8 plus. shootx 10x better video 4k60fps than my s10 plus which is unsharp, jerky at 60fps (worse than 30fps), and horrible with the zoom lens.
10/10 for iphone 8 plus video. photos rear also better except in dark, but front camera s10 wins hands down.

Yes, plus it is slower than 3d touch, you have to wait for the menus to appear. Basically it seems to be removing a feature, as 3D touch is far better than haptic touch. It wsa just more expensive to provide, and they couldn't use it on the ipad. Hopefully 3d touch devices do get it back. I am a fan of 3d touch. I noticed that the samsung note 9 has a 3d touch type home button, which I wasn't aware of before, as it is pressure sensitive and gives you that satisfying tap response, but only seems to be in the home button area on the screen.

PhantomNVD: I see this like the ipad3Retina launch... stopgap method to get the annual fanboi money with not much difference on last years offering.
Time for me to upgrade my 7+ but only for an XS from last year (at half the price of last year’s release)
Where can you get it for half price? The XS is a nice phone, and is why I suspect they no longer sell it new as it competes too strongly with the 11 pro.
Historically I have upgraded in the two weeks after the newest phones drop for roughly half of the original retail prices, as their are usually a mass flood of the last year model at this time, and some people try to use the low start price method to attract buyers. I just autobid on 5-20 phones at the price I want to pay and always end up winning at least one by the time the flood slows. I even managed once to sell my iPhone 4 for $40 more than the 5S I’d just bought for its replacement 😂
Yes you can get some good deals on trademe. It is really about making sure that it is in good condition, because a lot of them aren't. So many of them are damaged in some way, and i suspect almost all have been dropped at one point. It is the problem when they now make them out of glass on both sides.

Where we're going 3D touch won't be possible on future devices. They want to reintroduce Touch ID next year - only way to do that is to phase out 3D Touch so that they can have the optical finger print reader under the glass. Can't do that with a 3D touch layer in place. Haptic is the right move, even though it will be missed.

Not perfect, but an significantly better than 720p (-;
On a serious note, for some time I have been seriously considering de-googling my life, so an iPhone is a logical option. I don't like a big phone, so it would need to be the Pro 5.8". The iPhone Pro looks nice - I particularly like the new camera set-up, and their native UI for photos/video looks excellent, but $1,950 for a phone with only 64GB of storage with no ability to expand, really? I'm not in the market for a phone this year, so will have a look again this time in 12 months where they will have to offer 128GB as entry, but then again ... will they?

I'm in the latest 13.1 Beta on my XS Max and I still have 3D touch...or at least it certainly peeks and pops like it always did.

I don't know if anyone can answer this, but why are modern smartphone cameras concentrating on "ultra-wide-angle" lenses instead of better optical zoom?
It's great having 2x zoom, but that takes me from wide angle 26mm equivalent to 52mm...it's hardly telephoto.
I'd love a smartphone that gave me 3 cameras - 26/28mm, 2x optical and 4 x optical. That way I'd never need a point and shoot camera ever again (assuming the glass used is of sufficient quality).
The digital processing in these new devices is so good that the quality is similar to the untrained eye as my (admittedly shoddy) SLR photos. With zoom, I would only need to have my SLR when I really want control - and I'd never need a point and shoot camera ever.

I prefer ultra-wide over zoom. I use the ultra-wide daily. Very rarely zoom.
iPhones have never had optical zoom. They just flick between the two or three different cameras, and use cropping in between.
My main objection to using a phone camera is that the auto-focus can't cope with fast moving subjects. Also the handling is terrible compared with a real camera, and that really matters when you're shooting under pressure.

I am so in for that Green iPhone 11. Anyone wanna buy a P30 Pro? 😂
Anyone have an idea of when the local telcos will be opening their pre-orders?
All three main players (2D, Spark, Vodafone) have "Pre-orders begin 14/09/19" on their websites which I'm hoping means 11:59pm/12:00am tomorrow (Friday) night.
Sucks that it's been pushed back five hours this year as it was always so easy doing it at 7:01pm!

The inscreen fingerprint sensors are nowhere near as reliable yet as they need to be. Hence why they went for face ID. I can't see why they couldn't have 3d touch with inscreen finger print sensors, but would liekly depend on teh technology they use. Ultrasonic vs other options. It is more a matter of price I think, as 3d touch screens are more expensive to produce, hence why it was removed last year on apples budget XR phone. Plus it would be very expensive to do either 3d touch and full screen inscreen touch id on the ipad.
