Hopefully one day, if I am successful I may get a mention too!!

I don't know how to do those fancy boxes yet but can I say thanks to Michaelmurfy for his comment :) Interesting that my initial post has appeared on your site (and I mean that in a nice way)
And also to R2D2 as well for bringing it back on track.

I didn't realise coming on here would open up a can of worms - half of what you are all going on about is over my head anyway, so thanks to those of you who are actually helping me. Smile

I think for me personally an iphone is just an iphone - as in its a name and I don't go for names - why spend extra dollars on a product that in reality does the same thing. I don't buy Nike or the like as I'm not pretentious and I don't need to show everyone my 'label'. Ie when people post on Facebook it comes up with 'sent from an iphone' ooohhhh everyone goes, yet a normal phone it doesn't, so there is my answer.

So back to helping me with a phone. I am going Android, so for those of you who are against this thanks for all your help but please don't come on here and bag me or turn this post into a debate (that's not being rude is it?)

Anyway I'm still liking the LG Optimus X whereas my husband says it could be the HTC Incredible - the two on my short list.

I am looking at the specs at Mobicity and really can't see a difference between the two but if someone could suggest to me if I am?

The HTC Incredible uses an older single core processor meaning it won't handle flash heavy websites as well as the LG Optimus 2X. Based on people's opinions of the HTC Sense interface and HTCs generally pretty good build quality I think if you don't care about speed then it may be a better option.

How much are you looking at spending anyway?

The Incredible is definitely a nice handset but as mentioned it is dated. Surprised how much these still go for despite their age.

Kiwiteacher:
All rather confusing so I am currently googling all the recomendations.  Is a 5MP camera good?  You can so tell I'm a novice.

It's funny you should mention the camera, as that was the thing that ultimately swayed my decision to get an iPhone 4, despite being really keen to get a high end Android handset. In terms of droids, I had it narrowed down to the Galaxy S and Nexus S (I was in the market at the start of the year). One of the things I wanted my phone to be able to do was to take excellent concert footage. My wife already had an iPhone 4, and I had taken that to a couple of concerts, and was blown away by how well it captured the sound (heres a Metallica vid as an example).

Both the Galaxy S and Nexus S have problems with the gain settings on their microphones, and as a result they do not cope well at all in a loud noise environment, and generally fare poorly if you want to capture concert footage. Apparently this is not a hardware limitation though, and it can be overcome if you go the custom ROM route. But at the end of the day, I wanted a phone that performed well out of the box, and not one that required hours of research in order to get the best out of it.

5 MP is more than adequate unless you intent to zoom in and crop the pic or blow it up to more than A4 size.

It's fine, people ain't usually like this but I do know how annoying it is. Out of the 2 the HTC Incredible is indeed a nice phone but as others have said it has a single-core processor. For most people this wouldn't matter since it's still a "incredibly fast" (see what I did there?) device.

For dollar value though I would recommend just heading to the LG Optimus X which is indeed a nice phone, light, full of features and blazing fast.

Bear in mind though both of these phones will not work on Telecom - I would also recommend dropping the money on a LG Optimus in a 2* store to avoid hassles later on if there is ever a problem with it.

Lol, now we'll have the HTC fanbois vs the LG crowd! Dont mention Samsung!

The LG 2X is probably the best android phone for the money.

As an LG owner (;P) I would recommend it.
If I could afford it I would sell my LG P500 and get the 2X in a heartbeat! I only sold my GT540 to get the P500.

(before I got my LGs I owned HTCs)

I just got Android 2.3.4 on my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 and it's smooth as butter :D I wouldn't recommend an SGS just because it's fairly old now and I'd spend the extra dosh on a dual core beast instead.
