Will definitely be upgrading, the screen alone will be well worth it for every use, but especially reading.

Some may question the annual device upgrade pilgrimage but it's not just about the devices. Apple's eco-system is growing almost exponentially in the background and iTunesU inparticular is something I'm keeping my eyes on. It will change our perception of what text books really are and therefore learning as we know it. Of particular interest to me is what happens in the world of tech manuals in that space. That door is presently wide open...

eracode: I will be getting the new iPad to replace my iPad 2. If I am looking at the screen on my SGS II, then pick up the Ipad 2, the screen looks grainy and pixelated by comparison to the phone. Having a really HD screen on the new iPad will be a great luxury.

That was my first impression with my iPad 2 as well, coming from my iPhone 4, and its awesome display. I was initially quite disappointed with how blurry text rendering appeared. I've since acclimatized to it, but I can definitely see that the retina display as a major selling point should not be dismissed.

Does anyone have any idea of when NZ wil get LTE? And if it would be compatible with the new iPad?

Does Vodafone support the new 3G technology in the new iPad? DC-HSDPA?

Not sure if anyone has picked up on this yet, but Noel Leeming are already stocking 'iPad 3' accessories on their website.

http://products.noelleeming.co.nz/search?af=&login=false&items=0&w=ipad3

We could assume from this that Noel Leeming could be one of the launch day stockist of the new iPad?

jofizz: Yes definitely upgrading from my first gen iPad. All saved up!

Little disappointed the camera is not as good as dear wife's iPhone 4S.
Also no Siri? What's up with that, I don't understand.
Bit sad also there is no 128GB model! All those pix and videos will chew up my free space, will have to remove some apps as my 64 is pretty much constantly full.

Otherwise looks great, can't wait to see the new display.

Related: best place to buy? Online preorder when available or queue up early on release day?
Will def be getting 4G/64 GB beast. And a smart cover. No new smart covers for 3rd gen?

Cheers,
Joseph

Siri is only in beta. But I wopuld expect it to be rolled out on the ipad 2 and new ipad, as they both have specs as good as the iphone 4s.

They are not official accessories, so I would doubt it.

Can anyone remember what happened last year, how much advance wearning we had in terms of release time??

The slides at the ipad 3/hd announcement said 23rd March, Friday, for New Zealand. Ringing some stores they are all saying they won't say what time to be at the store until Friday, if anything is coming out friday. Last year I knew they couldn't talk about it, but I thought they said within 2-3 days "be here at 5pm, that's all we can say"... maybe i'm wrong I don't remember.

Asking because last year I got there late and almost missed out in getting one, this year I want to get there early, as I just sold my ipad2 to get the new one.

Read some scattered reviews. One thing I am seeing is that while retina is great, what about my existing content? It will basically be like watching a SD show/pdf on a HD screen. Same with most apps, will be upscaled.

Until all apps, docs etc are HD (I read eBooks and pdf magazines) maybe I will be super pleased when I turn it on, but see little visual gain when in real use. Unsure if webpages will benefit too, I read that the web images will be bigger, making the webpage slower to load

My friend has one in Aus, first thing he noted was while it does last the 10 hours as stated, it takes dramatically longer to charge, roughly 7 hours or so. Hopefully not too much of an issue as I plan to charge it each night anyway.

There's a banner on JB Hifi's front page as well. No pricing yet, but they've indicated that they're getting it on Friday.

Unfortunately I think I'm probably going to be too busy to get one on Friday so unless they get heaps of stock I'll probably just wait for the next shipment.
