Wow, that is really interesting. The launch of the AirPods Max gave the impression that Apple wanted to become more active in the hifi space, so this is a surprising move.

With Apple discontinuing the standard HomePod due to lack of demand, all I can say is ...Yeah no shit Apple. Maybe if you had actually expanded the number of countries you sold it in, you’d sell more. I don’t think they ever expanded availability beyond the at launch countries. Weird.

Yeah, especially with the Dolby atmos and stereo support they introduced later on, apparently it’s an impressive home theatre setup. Maybe I’ll find some going cheap now!

I think one of the main reason why the HomePod is still not available in NZ and many other countries is related to Siri. For those who have an Apple TV (4th gen or 4K) would know that Siri is STILL not available in NZ! I just don’t get it at all as we can use Siri on our iPhone, iPad and Mac.

I am fortunate that my friend was kind enough to brought me a HomePod from Sydney few years ago. I have also asked my friend to ship two HomePod minis recently, can’t wait!!

It just doesn’t make sense from a business perspective that the HomePod is limited to a few countries only... Unlike the Apple Watch ECG, Siri doesn’t need approval from the government.

Special arrival today!!! I will PM all the people who ordered this afternoon.

Small note - when the post days 7-12 days they REALLY mean 7-12 days.  If I did this again I would use the more expensive service which is 5-8 days.

@timbosan – can't wait! What's the price difference between those two postage options? 7-12 from AU isn't that bad is it?

Has anyone here paired their HomePod Minis with Apple TV as per this article?

Interested to hear your opinion on sound quality.

@Newtown - I will be PM-ing you soon :-)  From memory I think around $20AUD difference.  Although no-one has complained about the amount of time is has taken (I have PM-ed everyone at least one update already on delivery times).

And yes I have tried several times and cannot see the option.  However I just noticed the article says "cannot be set to the default" which is where I went wrong. I followed the instructions and it works! And FYI my Apple TV is on Ethernet, not Wifi.

I posted before about sound quality in this thread, comparing Mini's to my Sonos and my floorstanding Kef's (which have now been replaced by a Harman Kardon Citation soundbar and sub).

I also have a fullsized HomePod waiting to be sent, I am looking forward to that as the sound quality is supposed to be amazing!

Thanks to @timbosan I am now a happy HomePod Mini owner. Such a cool little speaker, it really packs a punch for its size. I am really curious to hear the big HomePod now. I guess we'll soon find out when @timbosan gets it.

So with rumours of a possible Apple event (or series of media releases like last year) I wonder if NZ will be getting the HomePod mini because of what I stumbled upon.

On Air New Zealand’s Airpoints Mall website, under the purchase conditions of what products are eligible to earn Airpoints Dollars through the Apple NZ website, it says “Effective 29th March 2021, the new HomePod mini is eligible for rewards.” Of course it’s not available from Apple but every other product they list that’s eligible is available in NZ.

So it seems strange they would list a product eligible for earning Airpoints Dollars, that you can’t actually buy from Apple NZ, if it weren’t coming to our shores.

https://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/airpoints-mall/electricals/apple-new-zealand then click on ‘Purchase Conditions’.
