hemantdb: Can anyone tell me if iphone5 which are sold by telecom are unlocked meaning they
can be used on any NZ mobile network. Tnx

iPhones sold in New Zealand (from Vodafone, Telecom or Apple) have always been unlocked, including the iPhone 5.

Mine too. TNT doesn't acknowledge it yet. Apple's shipment confirmation says delivers by 31/10 (next Wednesday), but TNT will have a better estimate.

That's brilliant that everyone's phones are on the way. You guys are right, I love it. Cannot believe how clear the screen is, how fast the phone is (just opening apps and whatnot) and how much faster the Internet connection is. I've done a test and am only getting 4mbps download out here in the 'burbs, but that's still about as fast as the wi-fi at my parents house, where I'm staying tonight.

So far the only complaint was how hard the screen protector was to apply. Trying to line up a clear film edge with a glass one wasn't easy. I had several goes before I got it on marginally straight. I'm a bit sad I had to case such a beautiful piece of design but I have a young son who, despite having his own iPod touch, often can't resist picking my phone up, and he's not the most gentle kid.

Now I want one of those new iPads with the A6 chip!

littleheaven - next time you need to apply a screen protector, look up the "hinge method". Basically you use scotch tape to hold the film in place down one side of your phone before peeling any film off. Then hinge the film open like a door, remove the back film, hinge closed onto the glass, and boom, perfectly aligned screen protector!

Another tip is to do it in a steamy bathroom. This helps greatly in keeping dust specks from entering between the film and glass during application.

Yogi02:
mikey: Mine is still in Processing stage but i ordered a day later from most of you. Just preparing car phone holder while i wait.

Whats your choice of a car phone holder? I am looking for one as well. Just installed Sygic on our phones - works pretty well.

Just some cheap one i found on trade me which is actually pretty good out of the box. Being an engineer with access to steel and crafting tools i made a few mods and a solid stainless bracket - now it's mint with no bouncing movement from traveling. Looking forward to Sygic also.

At this rate, I'll have my new ipad before my new iphone as I'm planning to pick up from stores next sat once released :-)  Oh well a new toy is a new toy and I can play around with my ipad until the phone ships on 9/11.

Wow, what a great idea! Thanks for the tip, will be sure to use it next time.

Just to confirm, if I want to get the iPhone 5 now, I am guessing the quickest way to get it is through the $29 plan on Telecom that people have been talking about? Or are apple sending them out straight away now if you order through them?

Edit: Didn't refresh in time to see the above post

Go to a Telecom store and get your hands on it straight away, or you can order online on telecom.co.nz website. Or you can get one from Skinny website.

The downside of the telecom store is you dont know if they have in stock for the model or color you want and you will pay 29 dollars more (for one month) than the outright price.

I dont think Apple are shipping straight away yet.

I can not believe how fast my data is disappearing! In one week over half has gone already! I only use it in breaks at work. Looks like I will need at least 500gb on this phone!

Ordered at 7am on the day they were released and still no shipping :( Estimate still says 29th-2nd. To make that time they are gonna have to ship by tomorrow, surely?

Odd that yours hasn't shipped yet: I ordered mine at 1:26 AM on launch day, my brother and two friends ordered around 8 to 9 AM, and all four are being delivered in the same batch (currently in Hong Kong, should arrive 29th if no delays). Two of us had the same ETA as you, one was 26th to 1st.

It appears that normal delivery time from China to main centres in New Zealand is four business days, but some in Auckland might get lucky with three day delivery. For yours to arrive by the end of the original estimate (2nd) it would have to ship by the 29th (next Monday).

The pattern for mine was "Preparing for Shipping" around 4 PM (NZ time), "Shipping" about midnight same day. The TNT tracking page was able to report status about two or three hours later (it was a late night, for other reasons).
