Just to update this thread since I posted here I was selling my 2 minis - these have now sold.  Moving up to full sized HomePods :-)

Hahaha. the big ones are good eh, Netflix do a lot of Atmos based content which is pretty good. Drive to Survive was pretty awesome at only half volume on the OG HomePods!

Well, what's the verdict?

I have a question to those of you with a mix of Mini and OG HomePod... Are you able to combine them to create a bigger soundscape? Could you combine 2 Minis and 1 OG to create a deeper response?

No. OG can’t be paired with the Mini. You can AirPlay to them but you can’t mix and match.

Unfortunately my OG HomePod hasn't arrived yet so I cannot comment, but the mini's still amaze me with their sound - I broke up the stereo pair I had and moved one to my office, still sounds really good listening to music whilst I work. And handoff / speakerphone for phone calls is just SO SO handy!

One thing I am contemplating is a Apple Music plan, the integration with the HomePod (and music on the Apple TV) would make it far easier to use than dealing with AirPlay with Spotify, and when the big HomePod gets here, I am sure it will be worth the cost :-)

Got the Minis from MWave, and got the Homepod from Apple.com.au and used a forwarder. Got the Minis a lot quicker and would buy from MWave again.

@jarledb – could you please let us know the freight forwarder?

I used Ausff.com.au

Have only used them this one time so can't say if they are a good company to use or not. Worked well for me. Took a little longer than the package that was sent directly - but that is to be expected. And things don't move all that fast from Australia to New Zealand at the moment in any case.

Thanks for that. I have let my Brother in Law. Refer this post here

For NZ$159 I reckon he could sell his Bose 500 speaker, buy the Apple Homepod Mini and still have money left over.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Yes! $159. I’ll get at least two more for sure. Kids want one too!

Yay - Hopefully this also means better regional support for Siri - And by that I simply mean allowing me to use Siri on my Apple TV 4 without changing to a US based itunes account. I don't expect them to be going crazy with local content for a small market but at least let me use the assistant on the Apple TV, bloody annoying as I thought it would be good to have it hooked up to the 5.1 receiver and request music from apple music, turns out I have to search manually requiring the TV to be on.

So in the mean time back to using my Echo Dot with an analogue connection to the receiver and its weak Apple Music support :(

I’ve just updated my Apple TV 4 (HD) to the 14.5 RC and whaddyaknow, I can now enable Siri with my NZ account. So I assume that Siri in NZ English is coming with the HomePod OS update next week, and that’s why they are now “able” to sell it here.

Now I just need to find the remote… (or buy one of the new ones…)

macOS 11.3 comes with new sorting options in Reminders, the ability to set audio output to Stereo HomePods as default.

Well it is June, but no ability to buy the HomePod mini yet. Maybe I'm just to eager? 😬 Does anyone have any info on when in June the HomePod mini will be available to buy from Apple NZ?

Probably tomorrow due to timezone differences 🤷‍♂️

I got AppleCare+ for my two minis, at $19 each I couldn’t resist the peace of mind even though our CGA is really good.

Thanks. I just reached out to Apple Chat but they do not have a definite date for availability in June and suggested checking back to the Apple NZ store from time to time. I'll check again tomorrow. I'm going to get Apple Care too.
