I ordered a 17 Pro Max from OneNZ on the 13th September for a pick up in store (Cuba Street) AND still nothing about a date of pickup.

Has anyone who ordered for OneNZ in-store pick up received their device?

I got mine from Harvey Norman PN on Saturday - just walked in off the street and bought it without prior ordering.  I ended up going for the 17 Pro.  The only thing I wanted to check was the camera of the 17 Pro vs the 17.  While the 17 was fine and hard to distinguish from the 17 Pro, I liked having the extra oomph in the camera, and comments about the extra RAM on the 17 Pro make me think it'll have longer legs than then 17 over the years.  Plus I had budget for the higher cost, so decided to go for the Pro.

Overall, it's a very nice phone.  My only little gripe is the case I bought for it has buttons to cover the device buttons - but for the camera/AI button, instead of being recessed it's raised like all the other buttons, and I'm continually hitting it when I take it out of my pocket and turning on the camera.  The touch/slide function is also not as smooth with the button covered.  But these are very minor niggles.

I also had an in-store pre-order at One (for my partner, so we could use One Wallet which is not do-able online), for which I never heard a peep about. I just went in on Saturday and sure enough the phone was there out back with my name on a Post-it…

So I'd recommend you just walk in and see what the go is, they might have it put aside for you (or might not).

I feel like perhaps there is/was an issue with their comms because it feels like no one is being told anything in terms of shipping/pick-up.

I went in store at Spark on the 13th of September and placed an order the 17 pro max but have yet to receive any information about when it is supposed to arrive in store. I see some people have been lucky and got theirs already and was wondering if anyone knew what I could do. Im hoping I dont have to wait weeks for my new phone!!.

Went into the Cuba St One nz store. They haven’t received the phone and have no information on whether it is expected to arrive or on back order. I would have just had it delivered and ignored the wallet nonsense if I knew this would be an issue.

strange how there is no ability for them to know the status of an order

I'm on the waitlist/backorder queue with spark same deal lol.

Ordered mine on Sep 13th around 1am - Got backorder email (no ETA) later in the day, messaged them a week later for an ETA update all they can see is order went through - yay ;-)

Got told wait for updates via email - alrighty then. The not knowing when is annoying for sure.

At a guess if you go by applenz website - average delivery time is 2-3 weeks for iphone 17 pro and iphone 17 pro max 3-4 weeks.

It will turn up eventually just have to wait and see I guess :-)

The pro with waiting is it gives apple time to fix the bugs in iOS26, few there - Still enjoying iOS 18.7 on iPhone 14 pro.

If you look at previous iPhone release threads on here, the same thing happens with telcos every single year.

If you want to guarantee yourself an iPhone on or near release day, and be kept up to date with where the order is at, order direct from Apple

If you want to gamble on getting an iPhone on release day, or some time after and have zero comms about it, order if from a telco

I don’t have any knowledge of how the distribution of phones from Apple to telcos work but I suspect they get next to know information from them so have nothing to pass on to you as the customer

I was following your other iphone 17 thread. What colour did you end up getting? I held off pre-ordering on the launch and waited to view the models in store. I took the Orange Pro Max and figure I can change the colour via various cases. Unfortunately I'm now stuck in One NZ's Iphone ordering purgatory.

I was originally going to go for the silver - I've never been one for especially showy colours.  I wasn't keen on the Cosmic Orange (if only because subliminally it seemed like a tribute to the Orange Dictator) though when I got in store and saw it IRL it looked pretty cool.  But my mind was already irrevocably associating Cosmic Orange with The Don and there's no way I could ever bring myself to fly that particular set of colours.  My partner (who as an artist is much more colour savvy than me with my colour-blindness) quite liked the deep blue, and I had to admit that it was pretty cool.  So I went with that.

The only downside with going for a stronger colour over the lighter silver option is that I then had to think about colour clashes with my choice of case (#firstworldproblems).  But I found a nice, complementary blue case at the local mall which did the job.

The Blue is a good choice. And going to Harvey Norman meant you have it in your hands already!

Doesn't sound like many people here ordering the Air. I'm not in the market this year as I got the 16 last year, but am interested about what the uptake of this new form factor will be.

I like the idea of a super slim phone, but the massive camera bump ruins it for me. I'd personally prefer a more downgraded camera on this model if it meant they could eliminate the camera bump entirely. It's a "form over function" phone, but they sacrificed too much of the "form" to retain a better camera.

I note they didn't manage to get it as thin as the M4 iPad Pros either. My 13" iPad Pro M4 is nearly 10% thinner than the new iPhone Air.

I saw a video which said that the camera module contains pretty much the entirety of the phone's hardware.  Which is a pretty impressive feat, and means that the main body of the device is for the battery.  But I agree that it's form over function, a continuation of the race to be the "thinnest" (so long as you ignore the massive lump at the top).  If they had instead made the phone flush with the camera module they could have also achieved reasonably sleek look, but the battery would be massive and be a huge drawcard for those who want/need week-long battery life.

The video I saw indicated that the level of miniaturisation required for the Air points to potentially cool new wearables in the not too distant future, which could be interesting to see.
