ZALMAN:
nzbullet: If you "Update" it should not make a difference to the XT Settings. If you have to restore then it will.

I am downloading OS 3.0 now and once I have updated I will confirm everything. I will be updating to OS 3.0 later this afternoon.

which version are you updating to?
im using the beta 5 not sure if its anything to do with it or not but
My phone is lasting 5 hours standby on a full battery
but the usage is saying 5 hours also when I have not been using it?
also the phone is heating up on the back? maybe because its draining the battery so fast?

Cheers

OS 3.0 final has been seeded to developers now.

I am not sure about the battery life, my iPhone pretty much lives on charge. either in a dock or in the car on charge. so I don't notice the battery life I'm affraid.

As for heating up, I haven't had that problem.

Cheers

It has now been confirmed. The Carrier Settings will stay in place after updating to 3.0. As usual though if you restore they will not.

Can I ask - how do you do this manually if you have a jailbroken (such a word?) phone?

I don't expect step by step instructions - just a quick summary will point me in the right direction. (I am in the process of Jailbreaking the phone now)

Thank you,

Matt

Ok - so I have Jailbroken the phone and am now connecting to it with openSSH - to manually copy the files across.

Thank you!

Ok - so here is what you do:

Once Jailbreaking the phone, you connect to the phone using the SSH protocol and you copy the telecom_nz.ipcc contents into the following directory on the iphone:

/private/var/mobile/library/Carrier Bundle.bundle

Don't forget to restart!

Speedtest Result

This is my subtle way of saying that the Carrier settings, and tethering in OS 3.0, work perfectly. Within NZ at least. I also love the XT logo. Good work getting that up there.

I got around the iTunes 8.2 thing by installing a Pre-Release version of iTunes 8.2 into a Windows XP VM. Inelegant but worked fine for me. Hopefully someone'll release a patch for iTunes to fix that (or Apple'll stop listening to AT&T).

Thanks Heaps!

For mrscullen89: Apologies - it is not the file itself that you copy across, but the contents of the file. I used a mac to do this so on a mac you can right click and select to open up the folder containing all of the necessary files to copy across.

In windows, I'm not sure how you would do this... Does someone else know?

On another note: I can send and receive MMS great. I noticed that it took a while to receive them though.

Also - I downloaded a dodgy ring tone which caused the phone to crash and am now having to do a restore - so beware of Jailbreaking 3.0 OS beta 5 + downloading files (that may not be compatible)

So i was bored and was thinking about upgrading to 3.0 gm. even thou it is final relese next week.
I have iphone 3g. jailbroken 2.2.1. itunes ver 8.2. ( i updated itunes before i read all the threads saying not to ). i have manually added the XT carrier pack. all works well.
If i was to backup via itunes, upgrade to version 3.0. is there a way to get the carrier pack back on, seeing as it wont be jalbroken anymore and i have the wrong version of itunes ?
or do i not really need the xt carrier pack and can just enter in apn number manually etc ?
even if i was to wait till next week for final release, i am wondering if it would still be better holding off until a new jalbreak release is out
thoughts ?
