My trusty HP Color LaserJet 4500N (newer model) has a broken middle drawer cover so I cannot open and close it. I'm looking to replace that drawer cover. I could also get a broken printer for parts or a fully working 4500N or 4550 replacement.

These printers are old, mine is from 2000, and weigh over 50kg so I'd probably pickup. I am in Wellington area and can pickup a lot further north. My last resort might be to get one from Auckland where there is one listed on Trade Me.

I have lots of cheaply-bought consumables so it is the cheapest printing option that I have.

CANCEL Wanted To Buy because I've decided to get a new colour printer.

I discovered three problems upon opening the printer up. The worst of them effectively "bricks" my printer because the power went off during the power-up sequence.

SUMMARY: The middle-front drawer holds the Intermediate Transfer Belt. During the power-up sequence, a set of lift cams raises the Intermediate Transfer Belt to position it next to the photoconductive drum. During normal operation, if you open the middle drawer or if you properly power the printer off (via the font ON/OFF switch), the DC Controller microprocessor lowers the cams. This in turn lowers the Intermediate Transfer Belt. If the printer unexpectedly loses power (for example, someone inadvertently shuts Off the printer power at the power input receptacle), the DC Controller will not have the opportunity to lower the Intermediate transfer belt. With the belt in the "up" position, it is impossible to open the front-middle drawer.

CAUTION: Educate the customer that unplugging the printer before the printer comes to a READY state or during printing may prevent the middle front drawer from opening or closing. Also, opening drawers during calibration or printing can cause this.
