Hi,

Kids driving me up the wall by pinching my computer all the time for Minecraft, so time for them to have their own...

So, anyone have a Core 2 Duo system (or similar, prefer 2GB RAM but not picky) they want to sell off (up to $100) ?

Only really require RAM, motherboard and CPU as I have video card, drives, cases etc already but if you have a complete box, it'll save me time building anything ;)

Must be in Auckland so I can pickup. (I'm in Whangaparaoa).

We have 2 HP xw4400 workstations sitting in the lounge about to go to e-waste. They were used by my parents for their design business, but they upgraded some time ago. I have a limited understanding of computer specs, but I'll do my best.

HP xw4400 workstation
Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz
2GB of ram
Product key sticker still in place
Hard drive removed

Both computers are in good working order. I was using one of them for Age of Empires up until recently.

Not sure if this is what you're after, please let me know.

I also have a Phillips 190B monitor that's about to go on trademe for $5

Yep that's all good. The less that goes to e-waste the better. Just double checked, they both have 2GB of ram. Hopefully I made it clear, but there won't be any drives included.

We also have several keyboards and mice (all working) that you're welcome to. Most of them are HP USB keyboards (the ones with the silver panel along the top) and mice.

I'd say its unlikely you would want this, but we have a:

HP Proliant ML110 Windows SBS 2003
Pentium Dual Core
Had 4 drives in it and a tape drive (all have been removed and not included)

From memory, one of the drives failed, but it could have other issues that I'm not aware of.

Finally, we have a Brother DCP-J140W printer, hardly been used, free as well if you or anyone else wants it.

Slightly off-topic, but I believe I may find myself in a similar situation in the next year or two. What have you found Minecraft needs to run, particularly the video card? My i7 with 16gb with no video card (I know I know I just haven't had the money to stick one in yet) seems to run it fine. Also have your kdis moved across to the Win 10 beta version or have you stuck to the normal PC version? I couldn't see much point in switching to the Win 10 version and have to start worlds from scratch etc.

My own little comment here.

Minecraft - what can run minecraft?

I had a 512x512 texture pack on with animated water etc..
Full detail and max render distance.
It would use about 12GB of ram and load my 4770K up to 50%, graphics card took a hiding too.

Its limitless on what resource you can use with it really.
My server would kill a E5 Xeon with 128GB ram when rendering the map.

Yeah an i7 will run it with no problems with onboard video. Its if you start playing with texture packs etc that you might start seeing slowdown etc.

I was originally running it on a Core 2 Duo system with a 9800GTX video card until about 16 months ago, when I bought a new system (as per my signature). I've got both versions installed on my PC, I just potter about in it, but the eldest likes to play online so she uses the "normal" version.

I'll be firing up a private vanilla server soon so the kids can play on that with their friends, then at least I know its a "safe" environment for them, compared to a lot of public servers full of little *beeps* talking about stuff my kids dont need to see/know.
