Hi All,

I saw a thread selling a Tivo recently but was too late.

Anyone in Auckland (our outside of if postage included) want to sell theirs?

Wanting to pay around $80 and would prefer if it came with wi-fi adaptor, remote etc.

Let me know what you have.

I would like one as well. I do not need wireless adapter, and could live without the remote for the right price. All the ports need to be working, but I can replace the fan or HDD.

I know what you mean. These should have been the default premium FreeView box for Kiwis but the ridiculous price tag when they were first released put most people off and they never recovered from this. I've heard it said that Kiwis were unlikely to take them up on a subscription model like consumers in the USA.

I find it a great shame that we don't have access to newer editions of the boxes and allow streaming to tablets etc.

doesn't see a lot of money for the features.

Anyway I am happy to have gotten mine for $80 + shipping and then add one of my spare 2tB drives and I am extra happy!

I think a bigger limiting factor was that your ISP had to be Telecom (as I remember it??) Already lost a chunk of the market there I would think.

That was only for zero rated traffic, but there was an impression that it was the case that only Telecom users could have it.

I also have a Tivo that is now excess to requirements. Unit and remote. It works, I've just replaced it with a NAS recording setup.

It was an epically flawed roll out. It was at a time when Freeview was only in its infancy in NZ and this new expensive "high end" box was released onto the market when the market wasn't really ready for it. Because digital TV was so new people didn't really understand it and all they heard was you needed a net connection (for the EPG). They heavily pushed the fact that you could also watch programming using an internal on demand service (which was phased out and replaced with Quickflix) but many people assumed all broadcast TV was streamed which wasn't feasible given the data pricing and plans of the day.

In addition to that you could only buy them from Telecom who pushed the "zero data" for TiVo use which again reinforced to many the streaming thing which was only feasible to do via Telecom.

I'm a huge TiVo fan and sorry to see its decline however the worst thing you can do is see what the current models in the US are capable of! Yes it can stream to many devices, yes it has apps for Africa for most other streaming services, yes you can even watch your recorded programmes logged into their website from anywhere but especially ignore the SIX built in tuners!!
