Hey, have you listed a price, location and how much shipping would be to other parts of New Zealand? Also if you are asking for a PM make sure your Privacy settings allow your account to receive PM otherwise people can't contact you. Also note if you are selling something we ask you to offer to other members first. Links to private sales (including Trade Me posts) aren't accepted anymore and will be removed.

IMHO Can't beat a good second hand iPhone 5 which fits the upper end of that price bracket but, YMMV so spring for the 6 if at all possible and never look back 👍

Vodafone Smart Ultra will probably fit the bill.

The only way you will beat the vodafone smart ultra 6 is to get lucky on a Chinese import

http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=3216215

on sale you can get it as low as $200

Fast, great battery life, great wifi, 4g, bluetooth, excellent screen and little to no bloatware.

Comes unlocked (only 2degrees or vodafone).

Accessories through aliexpress are cheap and easy to get hold of.

I came from an s4 and I am very happy

+1 for Smart Ultra, the only negatives for me were lack of 5Ghz Wifi, and no gyro (so I can't run Cardboard).  Both of these I can live with.

I have got a brand new BLU One Life X I purchased earlier this year while I was in USA. You can have that for $200 including shipping.

Specs as follows:

  • Unlocked Dual SIM smartphone, Android 5.1 Lollipop
  • 5.2" full HD display with Corning Gorilla glass 3. connectivity - Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Micro USB 2.0
  • 16GB Internal memory 2GB RAM, 1.3 GHz Octa-Core Mediatek 6753 with MALI T720 GPU
  • 13MP Main Camera with Phase Detection Autofocus and 5MP Front Camera with LED flash
  • 4G LTE, (2/4/7/12/17), 4G HSPA+ (850/1700/1900/2100). GSM Quad band: US compatibility Nationwide on all GSM Networks including AT&T, T-Mobile, Cricket, MetroPCS, Straight Talk, Pure Talk USA, and others

I was going to use it as a backup phone in times of need. It comes with a flip case and a screen protector thats still unused in the box.

I think it might work on some LTE bands in NZ (not all). Dual sim slot and micro SD. I cant remember if the SD card is a separate slot or one of the sim card slots. I can check tonight when I go home.

Meizu make some great phones at that price point. perhaps something like the Meizu M2?  We have a few staff who are on a work mobile plan but its a cheap plan so no bundled phone  we've been buying the M2's as they are good phones but not too expensive that if we had to replace one it would be a big deal.

The Smart Ultra 6 is a decent phone, however it's quite a bit larger than the One M7, and in terms of build quality the two phones are worlds apart. That said, the SU6 is 100x more repairable if that's important to you.
