I'm looking to buy a used sound bar with optical input ideally with a subwoofer for my parent's TV. It has quite terrible sound being installed in a corner which I assume is bad for the sound acoustics of the TV's internal speaker which would probably normally be ok if installed directly to a wall.

There is a deal on a new Panasonic sound bar today @$100.00 however some DSE (rip) reviews noted the speaker was very tinny and no better than a TV speaker.

I know good sound bars are quite pricey but maybe you have an older used model that won't break the bank.

+1 after a soundbar, bought a veon tv last weekend, good picture, terrible sound. needs to be short and not too wide, or one of those box type ones like the Philips Soundstage HTL4110B.

pickup preferrable, im in auckland

We picked up one of the Panasonic sound bars from Noel Leeming today. I agree it's a bit tinny, but for $99 it does the job. I would say it's an improvement on our TV (Panasonic TH-50C400Z) sound, but not a huge improvement.

By the way, the price of this sound bar fluctuates very frequently (from $250 to $90).

I got my dad an LG soundbar with sub from JB Hifi on sale, $288 IIRC. Such a huge improvement it was well worth the $$.

I have been building speakers in University while studying Electronics and Acoustics.

Size of the box matters for the low range which brings richness to the sound. If you are after sound bar which is less in internal volume then the TV itself but uses similar small all-range speakers - sound quality will be no better.

You put few TV speakers in a bigger solid wooden box with he bass-reflex (i.e. the whole with the tube, tuned accordingly) and you would be amazed what difference it can make.

Today only - I am giving away TV speakers dismantled from plasma TVs. (I think 3 or 4 pairs) If not picked up today - all will be binned. They are square.
