i would except 2600k uses 1333mhz memory and my current system has 1600mhz memory. dont want it to go to waste.

It's the motherboard that sets the frequency not the Cpu

If you don't mind me asking, Why do you want to do this? You get 100Mhz base and 2 more meg of cache and hyperthreading.

 

I guess if you are doing multimedia rendering etc I can understand it will give you a slight performance boost, but for gaming you would be lucky to pull 1 more fps on average. Your better off overclocking the bajeus out of the chip you already have.

 

If you do end up doing this, I might be interested in your i5.
