I have a more domestic version with less ports. It's maxed out with cables. Would this work ok for that or is it rack mount professional use only stuff?

You would be fine upgrading to this to get more ports. Particularly if it is for home use. Its unmanaged. So no setup, just plug the cables in, power it up and go. Its sized to be rack mounted. But nothing to say you have to do so.

Yeah very much plug and play. I was using it for my home network up Unum the point i decided i needed some vlans and thus needed a managed switch.

Cheapest I can find them on PriceSpy is about $160. You can have it for $80. Will you be able to get out to Sumner?
